It stared at me, its black eyes penetrating into my soul. I'd never seen one before, Mother had never let me outside, especially not at nightfall. I sighed. It was just Mother and me, ever since my brother ran away. After he left when I was two, Mother never let me out of her sight, until now.
She'd been gone a fortnight, and a dark figure with glowing eyes had spooked me out of the house. After one hour of walking, a wolf has now met me in the woods. Mother had told me all these stories about Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. In the stories, they sounded terrifying but now, the wolf seemed like a mother to me. Suddenly, something seemed to have startled the wolf. The wolf scuttled backwards, as though it wanted to run, but it didn't. It stared at me, as though I was the answer to whether it should run or not. All of a sudden, a bush rustled behind me and the wolf flinched again. Before the object was able to move again, I ran, with the wolf right behind me. After a few meters kf running, the wolf sped up even more and took the lead and I decided to follow it.
Out of the blue, the wolf made a sharp turn to the left but I slipped on mud out of surprise of the wolf's quick movement. I quickly got up again and ran to the nearest bush and crouched behind it. The creature stopped in its tracks and started to sniff the ground, looking for something. I held my breath and tried to look through the leaves of my bush, but it was too dense and dark.
I heard the sploshing of the creature's walking through the mud. I poked my head over the bush and looked around. The creature was gone. Turning my head, I attempted to examine the rest of my surroundings in the dark. Not seeing anything, I turned and ran in the direction the wolf had gone. Suddenly, I tripped over a log-shaped object. When I turned myself over, I realized I'd tripped over the wolf I was looking for. It seemed to be sleeping, but I hadn't startled it awake. I crawled over to it quietly in case any other creatures were around that could be looking for a snack. I shook it lightly, hoping to awaken it without angering it. When the wolf didn't wake up, I began to pet it, hoping to feel the wolf move. I heard leaves crunch, but I refused to move. I felt like I had to stay until I knew the wolf was alright. The leaves crunched even more and soon, I felt something warm breathing down my neck. Out of curiosity, I turned my head to look behind myself and saw another wolf. Its blue eyes sparkled in the now visible moonlight like diamonds. The wolf stared at me, but I stared back harder. All of a sudden, it barked and I flinched, but I didn't move an inch. Instantly, multiple wolves seemed to appear randomly out of the darkness, coming at me like torpedos. But I wasn't moving until the wolf got up. The scene was so intense that it felt like everything was staring at me. Even the trees seemed to have eyes.
I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my left leg and twinged, searching for the wound of the cause of my uncomfort. It seemed that my leg was suddenly pushed into a rose bush and the thorns were prickling me. I looked up from my leg, and the all the wolves were gone. Everything around me seemed to have disappeared until all I could see was black.
Suddenly...
