" Nessa, wake up! It's your first day of high school!" Says Mom. I stretch and yawn.

" Mom, it's six in the morning," I say checking my alarm clock. " School starts at...when again?"

" At seven. Sweetheart, I know that we haven't been living in Florida long, but you have to get used to all of this," Mom says pulling me out of bed. I reluctantly get into the bathroom to get changed and brush my teeth. I put on my normal black sweater, jeans, and converse. I guess you could call me a goth. I mean, ever since my Dad left my mother and I, I've always been kind of...off. I've always been a dark person I guess. I wish Dad never left us, I mean, how could he be so selfish?! I head downstairs to grab my stuff. It was 6:30 am.

" See ya Mom, I'm going to ride to school now," I say.

" See you, sweetheart. Sign up to the clubs, makes some friends," Mom responds with a smile, but she also looks nervous. I wonder why. Probably just because it's her first day of work. I get on my silver bike and start riding along the Florida coast. It's a beautiful day. You see, that's just it! If I'm goth, I'm not a proper goth. I still love the sunshine, I don't listen to heavy metal music, and I'm certainly not depressed. Maybe I'm not even goth, I just wear the color black everyday and don't get bothered by death. Ugg, I'm so undecided! I go to the bakery and grab a chocolate crescent.

" Hey Ness," says the assistant baker. He's my cousin, Theo. His twin sister Rainy is also behind the counter with her freckled smile. They're also in their freshman year. We all moved here together just a month ago. It's been difficult since both of our fathers left us. They were the brothers that made us related, yet they were the ones to stomp out of our family. Dads.

" So, aren't you supposed to be getting to the new school by now? I ask.

" Yeah, we were actually just getting ready to leave. Mom's going to be pretty busy with the customers and so we decided to help her out a bit," says Rainy as she hugs me. Aunt Coral is sure always a busy body, but she makes the best crescents!

" See ya in a few then," I say as I get on my bike a start riding towards the enormous high school. I stare up at it in all it's splendor. There's a bunch of students lined up to sign in or sign up for teams and clubs. All I can think now is: Wow.
