Maya's pov:
It was a normal night for me in the cafe, I had to close for the fifth time this week because marlie didn't show up for her shift. I'm beyond exhausted and ready to go home. I walk over to the door to lock it when it swings open, I jump out of fear. I look up to see a tall dark haired male standing there in all black clothes. He looks scrawny but I can't quite see his face.
"Please help me, I need to hide!" yelled this tall dark figure from above in a thick british accent. I wasn't sure why I felt the need to help him but I did, I pointed him in the direction of the back office where my boss normally stays. I locked the doors and turned out the lights. "Why am I helping a stranger who just came running into the cafe at midnight?" I whisper to myself. I hesitate to walk into that back office but my feet just move on their own. When I get to the room I see the man who had previously ran through my cafe doors asking for help.
This time his hood is down and I can see his face. He looked like he had gotten into a fight black eye, busted lip, and red cheeks. "Are you okay?" I asked confused "yeah" I wanted to ask what he was running from but I get a feeling that I don't want to know. "Are you sure? you look a little bruised, I'm gonna get you some ice" I rush out of the room before he has time to answer. I go to the freezer where we hold the extra supplies. I bundle up a few ice cubes and put them in a ziplock bag. I stop for a second to try and understand what's going on and if I should be scared or worried. On my way back to the back office I grab a rag off the shelf and wrap it around the ziplock bag. When I reach the room he looks up at me with these bright green eyes, he is quite handsome I have to admit it.
I slowly handed him the bag of ice and hesitatingly sat down in the chair across from him. "Thanks" he says calmly, I stay quiet. Finally he breaks the awkward silence "what's your name?" "Maya," I replied. "I'm griffin, thanks for helping me back there." And with that he goes back to being silent. I notice he looks very shaken up and nervous. "Hey, are you sure everything's okay?" I ask the guy now known as griffin "yeah, yeah, uhh I have to go. Thanks for helping me" and before I could reply he took off in a hurry. I sat there for a few minutes trying to understand what happened and why I wanted to know so much about a guy I just met. What was he running from? How old was he? Will he come back? Do I want him to come back?
"Buzz! Buzz!" The sound of my phone ringing in the other room breaks me from my thoughts. I walk into the dining area and pick up my phone. "Sadie" flashes across the screen "Hey, where are you at? You were supposed to be home an hour ago" my sister complains to me, omg I didn't even notice it was one in the morning "yeah, sorry I ran into an issue" I reply ''what issues?" "It's a long story, I'll tell you when I get home, I'm leaving now so I'll see you in a few bye" "Bye" I put my phone back into my purse, grab my keys and head to my car. On the drive home it was so cold which is pretty normal here in New York, I turned the heat all the way up and listened to Harry Styles. I have been obsessed with his music for a while now, it's so gentle and calming.
When I pull into the parking lot I park and go upstairs to my aunt's apartment. I go straight to my room and flop onto my bed. The next thing I know I'm sound asleep. "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" "Ughhhhh" I groaned in frustration. I reach over and smack my alarm to turn it off. "It's already 11? I do not want to get up!" I say to myself annoyed.
I roll over and fall right back to sleep.
