SHE COULD SENSE THE TENSION IN THE ROOM. It was almost scary to watch him. His thumb gently ran along the jade of the amulet. A small smile grew on his lips. Slowly nodding, he looked up at Hanako. "I'm proud of you," he spoke with pure adoration in his voice, like his own child had just made him proud, "this is excellent. I'm glad that Shang-Chi's presence did not disrupt your power."
Clenching her jaw, she forced a smile onto her lips. "I'm glad to have made you proud, sensei." She bowed to the man in front of her. Razorfist watched from the doorway, his hands forming fists. His jaw clenched at the sight. He hated her. He hated how everything seemed to be handed to her. And he hated the ego she had. As if she was above everyone else - better than the rest. That's what he hated about her. Their eyes met and his formed into a glare. When he looked at the smirk on her lips, he almost filled with rage.
"Razorfist," Wenwu spoke, grabbing the man's attention. The man's head perked up, ready for any order given to him. "Leave us. I have important business with Kirafurawa." His face dropped, the glare towards her becoming harsher. Her back was turned to the one-armed man so he couldn't see the smirk growing on her lips. After a silent moment, he turned and left the office, closing the door behind him.
When they were alone, Wenwu motioned towards the chair in front of his desk before taking a seat in his own chair. "I'm sure you're wondering why I sent you to America for my son's pendant when I keep you for more local operations." His eyes gauged her reaction, only receiving a small nod in return. "Well, you see, my wife has come back to me." Her eyebrows furrowed. All that she'd heard of Ying Li was from Shang-Chi and even that hadn't been much. "She's been locked away by her former family. I need these pendants from my children to be reunited with her."
Slowly nodding, Hanako glanced down at the necklace in his hand. A small frown grew on her lips. This couldn't be any good. All of the rumors she'd heard about Ta Lo painted them as a peaceful people. Why they would imprison one of their own, she had no clue. She watched him run his fingers along the pendant. It was clear it had meant a lot to him. It reminded him of his wife, the woman he'd dropped everything for.
"That's why I'll be sending you to the Golden Dagger Club to retrieve Xialing's pendant. You've seen her fighting, you know what to expect." Setting the necklace in a drawer in his desk, he intertwined his fingers together. His gaze remained on her, watching her movements like a lion with its prey. "I have no doubt that my son will be on his way by now. I'll be sending you with Death Dealer."
The masked man left a shiver up her spine. He was good. Possibly better than her in most aspects. But she would stay number one, like the loyal dog she was. There were some days where she imagined her life if Wenwu had never walked into it. Her father might still be alive, but probably not. The Yakuza was slowly taking over, even when she was a child. It consumed him. And it was gradually taking over her.
