{Chapter 3}

AugPOV:

We was sittin' in da waitin' room hopin' fa any news to come up on Chandra's boyfriend.

"Aug, you think he'a be okay?" Chandra asked quietly.

"To be honest.. Ion know what's gon happen but jus' know that if anything do happen I gotchu.. at all times."

We both looked up when we saw the doctors feet.

"Family of Brandon Smith?"

Chandra stood up fast. "Yea das me.."

"Okay, I got some good and bad news. Which one you want first?"

"Docta, not to be rude, but ain nobdy got time fa that. Juss tell us," she said as she raised her eyebrow at him.

"Okay well..Brandon is stabilized at the moment, but he's in a coma and we don't think he's waking up. The bullets hit an artery and his body isn't reacting well."

The way Chandra broke down damn nea' brought tears ta my eyes. She jus fell out. I caught her before she hit the ground and pulled her to my chest.

"Come on na, ma. Don't cry, think about tha good things" 

"But Aug, what Ima do without him?"

I couldn't even answer ha. I swea if I tried I woulda broke down. I ain seen ha like this since Mel passed.

The docta walked away and let us have a minute.

"Aug, I swea' if I gotta do this again I'm not gon' make it. I love him, Aug," she said while layin' on my lap.

"I know, ma. He gon' be aight. We all gon' be aight."

  The girls and I were sitting on the couch watching Frozen. KayKay was already in my lap falling asleep.

It was going on 8, and August hasn't returned. I reached over to my phone to call him.

  "Fuck." I said as I realized I didn't even get his number.

  I looked at Amiaya and Chay. They were dosing off, but fighting it.

  "C'mon y'all, Imma put y'all in my bed."

  "But I ain't even sleepy, Miss Summa," Chay said rubbing her eyes.

  I laughed as I scooped up KayKay.

  "Y'all sleepy, don't fight it. C'mon."

  I led them to my room and laid KayKay down. Amiaya and Chay climbed in the bed, yawning.

  "Miss Summa, wea' Uncle Aug at?" Amiaya said.

  "He's still with your mom. He'll be back soon. I promise."

  "Aight."
  I turned the light off and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind me. I looked around trying to find something to do to keep myself awake. I didn't want to fall asleep while I still had August's nieces. I looked in my kitchen and saw the dishes weren't done.
Perfect, I thought to myself.

AugPOV

  We been sittin' hea' fa almst fo' hours now. Chandra done fell asleep in my lap. I would wake ha up, but I got a feelin' she ain't gon be sleepin' tonight. 

  Tha docta walked in slowly.

  "Mr.Alsina, Brandon is doing well right now. He's still stabilized, but um, I have some more bad news. I didn't want to say this while Ms.- uhhh.."
