Two Worlds Colide

The Park

A few days has past since I was moved next to Dan in chemistry and we were now besties. I knew a lot more about Dan his hobbies, his favourite music and bands, his favourite animal and colour. I knew more about him than my own dad, Dan never spoke about his family. I asked him about his mum once and he immediately changed the subject so I decided not to ask him again. I had not yet asked him about his sexuality, there had never been the right moment. It was chemistry again for the third time this week, not that I'm complaining. Just after I sat down dan spoke.

"Would you like to go to the park after school?"he asked me

"Yes?" I replied in a confused tone.

The park was old, dirty and the grass was submerged in rotten dog crap, I hadn't seen a child their in years. Not that I was surprised considering that the surface of the climbing frame, swing and slide were covered in a layer of crispy bird poo and dry, colourless chewing gum. A group of 'hardcore' chavs had made it their home by spitting all over the ground and covering the walls of the public toilet in graffiti.

"Great! Meet me at the school gate after school." Dan said, enthusiastically.

The rest of the lesson flew by. Dan kept joking and I laughed until my sides hurt and Mr Henry threatened me with detentions.  I was looking forward to going to the park with Dan. I was confused as to why he wanted to go, but I didn't say anything. I left the classroom and headed towards my locker to grab my bag and hoodie. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a group of other people in my year look at me and laugh. I kept my head down as I walked passed them and pretended not to notice, I started to stress about what they were laughing at but then I spotted Dan at the school gate and I forgot about them. He saw me and smiled.

"Hey Phil" Dan said, still smiling.

"Hey Dan" I replied.

"Lets go"

We walked out of the school gates and along the street. It wasn't far to the park only about a ten minute walk.
