May 2021 – London
"Are you ready, love?" I asked for the third time peeking out of the bathroom door.
In response, Alex glared at me. I sighed. He doesn't like me rushing him, but I don't like him making me wait. It always ends the same way! We set up a reservation, and he started getting dressed half an hour early. It's 5:50 and we should already be in the car, going towards the restaurant. At least we're well known enough that they would forgive us for the delay.
The reason for our date was to celebrate our sixteen years together.
Ten years of friendship, six in love and two out of the closet as a couple.
Our coming out was problematic. Mostly because the press harassed us 24/7 and Louise, decided to waltz through all the television channels, accusing me of being the one who stole her man (which in part was right, but it was ironic that precisely that accusation came from her when she was also the one who was behind Alex when he was still in a relationship).
Those who were not surprised by the announcement (because in part they already suspected it) were the Monkeys and our families. The ones who were most happy were our fans. The fact that Milex was real drove them crazy. Alex still hates being in the public eye, but at least now he doesn't get so upset about it. Everyone pretty much assumed it was smooth sailing. We divide the time between his house and mine, because as much as we love each other, we don't want to get rid of our places.
Most of the time, we remain the same as when we were still just friends; bothering each other, ending each other's sentences, communicating through song lyrics, and looking for more intimate touch when surrounded by people. The big change was that we no longer had to make excuses to spend the night together. We could kiss and hold hands shamelessly, without fear of being seen. Although it sounds perfect, no relationship really is.
The only problem between us, is Alex's possessive and jealous attitude. Since I met him, he was like that. Over the years his little weak points grew, but when we decided to be in a relationship, it was magnified. So magnified that he decided to try therapy, since he was often so angry that he made a scene wherever we went.
After what seemed like a decade Alex was ready. We got in the car and started the night.
"It was worth waiting for you, you look so handsome!" I commented caressing his thigh as we drove.
He smiled and stroked my hand.
He was wearing a garment I haven't seen for years; the short-sleeved, violet shirt, combined with black jeans and boots. I remembered that this was the shirt he wore for a show in Austin, and that two years later, was the first one I removed from his pale chest.

We apologise to the receptionist for our fifteen-minute delay. He booked us our usual table, but what was not usual was the waiter who showed up.
"Good evening, gentlemen! My name is Mackenzie and today I will be the one taking care of you"
"Are you new here, mate? We come often and I have never seen you!" I asked in a friendly tone.
"Yes, I am! I hope it's a good thing" he replied with a wink aimed at Miles.
Shit. Without looking at him I sensed Alex's gaze on me. A comment as simple as that could start a storm. I stirred uncomfortably in my seat.
"Welcome! And for me..." I looked towards Alex and corrected myself "... for us it's fine ... if you were hired, because more help for the staff is always nice."
