"Who are you?" Batman said as he stared at the prisoner opposite him, at a metal table. The rest of the Young Justice Team were watching the interrogation through the security cameras.
They had found him beaten half to death but when they tried to help him, he attacked them. The young team underestimated their opponent and all of them ended with a few cuts on themselves. Some worse than others. But when they did find him he had blood covering his entire body, but what was really strange was that the blood was not a typical red, it was a cool blue. And the parts of his body that were not covered by clothing were seen to have had deep purple bruises. Kaldur had gone up to the young man and tried to wake him up, but as soon as Kaldur touched him his eyes burst open. He had attacked them, it was five on one and he still managed to overpower them. The others knew he had been trained, there was no other explanation on how this guy was so skilled, deadly. But after a good half an hour they managed to satade him and bring him back to the mountain for questioning.
"Who are you?" Batman repeated, keeping his cool.
The young man in front of him was wearing an odd suit. It was a dark grey, almost black with gold detailing. He was armed with two katanas that were resting on his back and a few daggers around his waist. He also wore a simple black domino mask that covered his eyes. The prisoner remained silent, he stared intently to the wall behind Batman. Batman didn't speak for a few minutes, seeing how he would react. "Talon." He stated simply, with a hint of finality. His voice was soft yet it demanded attention, it was the first time anyone had ever heard him speak. And they were not expecting that. Batman sighed, "No. What is your real name?" He was tired and this wasn't going very well so far. The man that called himself 'Talon' almost flinched at the mention of his real name. He looked to be deep in thought, he turned his attention back to Batman. "I do not remember." The team looked at each other, giving each other questioning looks. If you looked deep enough you could almost hear the pain laced in Talons' voice. "Are you working for anyone and if so who?" Batman continued the interrogation. "I used to work for someone until very recently. But you never truly stop working for them. They will always find you and then you will be punished for running." His voice was emotionless this time, it sent chills down Wally's back. But what they failed to notice with the exception of Batman, was that under the table, Talon's hands were shaking violently. "Who are they?" Batman asked a little rougher, he was finally getting somewhere with this kid, but what he was saying was extremely concerning.
"Beware The Court of Owls, that watches all the time, ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed, speak not a whispered word of them, or they'll send the Talon for your head."
Talon said, staring off into the white wall, he was afraid of these people, that much was clear. He was good at hiding it though, extremely good. "Talon, what are you saying? We can help you but only if you tell us first." Talon let out a shaky breath, he brought up his trembling hand to his face. He pulled his domino mask to reveal a pair of striking eyes. One eyes a bright, warm gold and the other a muted blue. But what really caught their attention was the golden veins that spread up his neck and onto his cheeks. "You don't understand, they will find me wherever I go. And I doubt you would want to stick around anyway. All the people I have killed, too many. They'll never stop until I'm theirs again, and I won't go back, I can't." He was almost pleading at this stage, he had never felt this desperate before. The Talon who once had no fears, the Talon who has killed hundreds, was at his breaking point. He won't go back, not after all the beatings, not after everything he had been through, he honestly couldn't."Talon, Who are you running from?" Batman asked, he needed answers. "Speak not a whispered word of them or they'll send a talon for your head." Talon said again, from the previous poem he had recited.
All of a sudden the room went black, the lights cut out and everyone was dead silent. Batman got into a fighting stance and the rest of the team came rushing into the interrogation room.
They looked around but couldn't see anything nor could they hear anything, no one dared to make a noise.Talon knew what was happening and it terrified him, but he needed to remain strong. He would have to fight the court, there was no other way.
The lights flickered back on, everyone turned their heads to see an unknown man standing in the corner. His suit was very similar to Talons' but instead of gold detailing in his suit it was silver and he also wore a black face mask that seemed to resemble an owl. Everyone saw Talon tense at the sight. The man had drawn out two katanas, staring at Talon intently. "Richard John Grayson, the court has sentenced you to die." Before Talon or should they say Richard could respond, the figure charged at him, while wielding his blades. Talon dodged the figures' attacks with a hefty disadvantage of wielding no weapons.
They were even in combat, Talon being an extremely experienced fighter. The figure got most of the blows given to him, even with the katanas. They remained like this for a number of minutes. But Talon made a mistake, the figure took it to their advantage and stabbed Talon through his stomach. He stumbled back a few steps before falling onto the white floor. The figure stood tall over him before swiftly disappearing into the shadows.Talon gripped his stomach trying to stop the blood seeping out of him, but it continued to leak onto the floor. He was now laying in a blue pool of blood, trying not to die. Black spots clouded his vision, but he forced his eyes to remain open, no matter how much pain he was in.
"Sometimes there is simply nothing. We can do nothing." Talon whispered into the air for anyone that was listening. He felt his heart slow down and his head beginning to lose consciousness. He regretted it so much. Everything. But there was nothing he could do.His last breath disappeared from his body, now leaving a dead man lying in his own blood in an interrogation room, surrounded by people he wished he could have been more like. Maybe in another lifetime, he could have the life he so desperately wanted. But no, he was a Talon, he was an assassin, he was a monster and that's all Richard Grayson will ever be.
