they meet at a party, like every story starts.
they meet again at a party.
it's the start of the year-long season where all the universities in the belt compete in all sorts of sports for the chance to go pro after university. the kick-off prompted a celebration, of course, to hype up the jocks boasted by their schools and the tired college students who will come to support them.
and like the last two years he was part of SMU's dancesports team, winwin had to be present at the event.
which meant that he had to interact with people who only had gold and glory in their minds for the whole duration of the event.
which meant he had to run into his ex-boyfriend and his teammates one way or another.
winwin sips on his fruit punch at a table flocked by dancers like himself, after they've went through all the photo ops that their publication prepared for them. seulgi was talking to taeyong about a quickstep routine that they had to polish for the week. ten was drawing on his ipad. their seniors kai and taemin, who were moved to the second string after their undergrad, were talking to their friends from another university.
winwin is antsy from being in a crowded place, and the introvert in him was screaming at him to leave already, but at least he hadn't seen a shadow of any of the members of the soccer team.
his ex's team. which means he's safe. and bored, which he cures through drinking. but his drink had ran out and he has to go to the bathroom to relieve himself before journalists from other schools set their sights on their team again.
he stands up, which earns him a look from ten. "where are you going?"
"to the bathroom," he replies, setting his red cup down. the music thankfully isn't too loud in their side of the room.
"return quickly, i don't wanna talk to people," ten says, which elicits a laugh from him because that's exactly how he felt too. no wonder they're best friends.
he heads to the bathroom, nodding to a few people he knew along the way. the hall was cold, which he likes, and the lights are dim. there are high tables with drinks scattered all around.
thankfully, there is no line when he gets there. the sponsors rightfully rented a large place to host all the athletes competing this season, to which winwin is grateful for.
while he did his business, he overheard a conversation from two guys he recognized were courtside reporters also from smu. he doesn't bother listening to other people while they talk but one of the reporters uttered a name that caught his interest.
"it's true, he's here. i didn't think he would be allowed to play for the first year because of residency, but he chose to play for smu now so it's all settled," one of them says.
"that's right. there's no doubt lucas wong would be named rookie of the year. the big three all fought to sign a contract with him for some time after all. the basketball team would be sure for a three-peat with him on the team this year."
the two reporters continued their conversation outside and winwin couldn't hear the rest of it, but the name rang through his mind.
lucas wong.
so he goes to smu, winwin thinks. that's curious.
he knew lucas from high school. he was two years the boy's senior. winwin's on his third year now, and lucas would be a freshman. lucas wong had always been quite the star player of their school's basketball team, it was no wonder at all that the big universities all tried to get their hands on him.
