Jean was waiting for you.

It was lovely, the table he picked.

The restaurant in its self was not fancy in the least, in fact, it was a small bakery that also happened to serve lunch, even though it was now late afternoon. However, despite the bakery's status, it's outdoor seating consisted of small tables positioned around various pots of flowers, whose vines crept up the side of the building.

Jean sat at the table, fingers drumming atop the hard surface of the wood as he waited. The flowers smelled crisp, like the breath of spring.

He had left you with Professor Ackerman almost two hours ago, and you had only just sent him a text saying you were on your way, 5 minutes ago.

What was keeping you?

The tall boy sat at a table amid soft colored flowers, the creamy hues of the petals intermingling with sunlight as it seemed to illuminate his brown eyes. Sometimes they looked like honey, his eyes, when the sunlight touched them. Like goddesses themselves had peppered tiny golden kisses to his irises.

Those eyes seemed to light up when they saw you making your way to his table, expression soft and beautiful as ever.

He immediately got up, and pulled out the chair from the small square table that was seated on the side next to his.

"Hey. Everything alright?", he asked lightly as you accepted his gesture with a smile and a muttering of thanks, and sat down. "I didn't think Ackerman was gonna make you clean for two hours. I mean, don't get me wrong, you were a smart ass, but you weren't that bad."

Jean took his own seat again, taking the opportunity, now that you were here, to admire how the flowers complimented your beauty.

"Yeah, yeah everything's fine. He actually didn't make me clean that much. I sort of got out of it. Sorry I'm late, I got a little held up afterwards", you offered, picking up your menu.

"Oh", Jean picked up his menu as well, even though he had already decided what he wanted long before you had arrived. He couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that you didn't come and find him straight away after Mr. Ackerman let you go. "Held up doing what?"

"Hmm? Oh, I was with Mikasa. She's the one who saved me from Ackerman. We walked around campus for a bit afterwards and-"

"Mikasa?"

"Yeah. We talked for a while and I showed her some spots on campus since she's never really been-"

"Why were you hanging out with Mikasa?" His tone grew dark, and the way he said her name was distasteful.

You looked up from your menu, meeting Jean's eyes. His gaze was harsh, accusing almost. He looked as if you had just set his house on fire.

You stared him down. "Why wouldn't I?"

"Forget it."

As always, whenever you wanted the truth, it seemed Jean was unwilling to be forthcoming.

You put your menu down. "No. Tell me. Tell me why every time her name is so much as mentioned, you act like, like this." You used your hands to gesture to Jean, to whatever this attitude of his was.

"I think I'm gonna have a danish. Might get a coffee, too." Jean ignored you. He averted his eyes back to his menu, traces of anger disappearing from his face.

You were the one growing angry now. You didn't appreciate his childish antics, and you were tired of your friends avoiding your questions about Jean's behavior.
