Maybe it was the first meeting that had winded you up too far in their business. You said that'll you'll live with no regrets, but you can't stop looking back.
Your head feels as if it's been pumped with air, lungs heavy, vision hazy. The metal pipe in grime and thick red urges you to release it, but your head is still spinning, making better sense of what happened.
A body slack in the alley, motionless like discarded, forgotten trash. You don't see blood oozing out- But you almost doubted if he had a breath left. The swiss-army knife had long been released from his grip.
Two pairs of matching, drooped violets stare back, then at your work. They don't say anything and neither do you. "You.." the taller one snaps you out of your daze.
"I.. I didn't mean to.." You keep yourself from spilling out the words. No, this man was at fault to begin with. Bringing a weapon to a fight- Much less against two kids doesn't deserve mercy. But did you go too hard?..
The ruffle of garments catch your attention, eyeing the younger brother crouched down as he searches the man's through the drunkard's apparels. He pockets a wallet, two- three- Must've mugged this off somebody before us. While the blonde with braids scoops up the swiss-army knife, fiddling with the blade, before shoving it in the pouch of his sweats.
They don't seem to be particularly disturbed the entire ordeal, as if they were accustomed to violence in the first place. Well, this was Roppongi after all.
You harden your resolve after the two finish up their business. Hooking your arms with unconscious man's; an attempt in dragging him towards the blinking lights, closer to the bustle of the main street. The siblings pause in their steps, watching you indifferently as you hauled the man in a snail's pace.
"What are you doing." The older one speaks up. "Just leave him there."
Sweat dribbles down your temple, as you take quick breaths. "Ngh.. Gotta let someone find him- to call up an ambulance or something-"
You're met with pure silence, not like you expected them to say anything else in the first place.
They exchange glances, before shuffling towards you. "Move." The one in the man bun and round optics scooches you over to the sidelines as he grabs hold the man's elbows in your place; His brother opting for the legs instead, both lifting him with ease.
You're almost flabbergasted at the change in behavior, despite robbing him just seconds ago. The work was fast; though they didn't exactly handle him with care. Dropping him as soon as saw a spot that had a nice patch of concrete, ending with a heavy thud.
"Uh.. Thanks?" It was a pathetic thank you, but you weren't sure how to react. With the illumination of the moonlight you could see a little better. Better at the scratches and bruises littered over the skin that couldn't been masked with the clothes. Which you found odd, because they fared pretty well over the guy.
An eerie sensation of a guess slithered on the column of your neck, so the words slipped out before you could even think- "Do you want to eat over at my house?"
You almost don't believe what you've said, fumbling with your words when they merely watch you, "y'know since it's already time for dinner right? If you don't want to it's fine-"
"Sure."
"..Eh? Is it really ok?" You double-check.
"Well you asked right?"
Which led the three of you sauntering towards your apartment complex.
"So.. what're your names?" You've never spoke to anyone around your age for some time now, so you mentally exclaim in pride.
"Ran, Haitani Ran. This one over here is Rindou, my little brother." He thumbs over to his sibling. Who scarcely said a word, while Ran spoke for the both of them.
"I'm Okunagi Yumeko, my Mum's out for work the entire night; so you don't worry about getting kicked out at least."
The trio make their way up to the second floor- A sad, building that's seen better days. It's image coupled perfectly with the dirt-cheap rent after all. You were greeted with the familiar scent of home, mixed with gentle-flowery scent of your mother's perfume.
The second you stepped in, the Haitani's violet hues explored the place. As if the whole experience was unfamiliar to them; had they not lived in a house before?
"I trust you both won't steal anything right?" You eye them warily.
Ran's attention turns to you, "that's how you treat guests? Just who do you think we are?" There's a wry smile resting on his face.
"Well I just saw you mug a guy, so your argument isn't very convincing."
He merely shrugs it off.
"Fine, hear that Rindou? Not even a penny."
You ignore the small 'tch' in the background, keeping careful watch over the water that jets down into the kettle before turning the lever.
"How do you like your ramen?"
The older Haitani raises a judging brow, "when you said dinner I wasn't expecting much, but instant noodles?"
"Well I don't know what kind of expectations you had, but I'm only ten." Throwing back in defense.
He snorts.
As per it's name, the meal took no less than five minutes, both brothers practically wolfing it down a tad bit too eagerly.
"Wow, didn't know you loved noodles that much" It's sarcasm, but apparently they don't catch it; or they've chosen to ignore it.
"Seriously? Haven't eaten lunch, 'course we're starving." He slurps down the soup.
You probably should've taken making dinner more seriously. Because now there's a certain guilt that gnaws at your heart as they fervently cycle their chopsticks at the meal.
"..Want me to make extra?" The grate of the wood is apparent, knees already half-up to reel up more dinner.
"Yesh plesh" Rindou pipes up, mixed with unreserved loud chomps. Cheeks blown up, resembling a squirrel you saw one time from the balcony window, who hid a nut between it's jaws.
It was pretty cute.
