Quinn Williamson and E.J Caswell had been next door neighbors for as long as they could remember. There moms would always set up play dates for the two of them, becoming best friends despite E.J being a year older.
When Quinn had started Kindergarten she had, of course, made other friends but still E.J was her number one. As kids they would make mud pies together and tell stories about what they planned to do in the future (which changed frequently, but would always go back to that one job that tugged on their heart string's). E.J had always wanted to become a musician and Quinn told him that she wanted to be an actor.
Quinn and E.J had skipped the cooties stage with each other, even if she believed other boys had cooties. When E.J had an issue he'd always talk to Quinn about it, even if it sort of had something to do with her. Like the summer before her 8th grade year when E.J had kissed her under the fireworks on the Fourth of July, after that they didn't talk the rest of the summer because damn was he mad that he wasn't her first kiss.
E.J was definitely not a jealous person, but when he sees his best friend talking to Ricky Bowen about auditions for the school musical he definitely feels something. Maybe it was because he and Quinn had always auditioned together or maybe an entirely different reason like the reason they didn't bring up the summer before his freshman year. Ok maybe, just maybe, he had a small crush on Quinn during that summer but it didn't matter because she had told him she had liked Ricky Bowen before he could even tell her. It didn't matter anyways because E.J was definitely over his crush now, he was just being a protective friend is what he keeps telling himself.
