"Maybe we should just all go..."
I heard Lennie laugh from the bathroom connected to the master bedroom. The house was incredible, even more so than the pictures had shown it to be. Each couple had their own bedroom, there was as full, state of the art kitchen, three bathrooms, a gorgeous sitting room, all with private access to a beach, its own dock, and water as far as the eye could see. It felt like we were in the middle of every country "I'm drunk on a beach" song ever written. And I was okay with that.
"Colt," Lennie's voice almost scolded. "All seven of us do not need to go grocery shopping."
"I don't like the idea of you girls going alone."
"Aw, Papa Bear, I think we'll survive on our own an hour or two."
I couldn't tell if she was calling me adorable or mocking me, but I wasn't sure I liked either of those options. "What if we just get em delivered? You can do that nowadays right?"
"We can... but we want to go explore a little bit. Why is it such a big deal?"
"Because..."
The second Lennie emerged from the bathroom, my need for her to not go off on her own only intensified. She was wearing her trademark cutoffs, but the rest of her outfit was nothing more than a sunflower yellow bikini top and a lacy, cream colored cover-up that looked more like a sexy robe than an actual covering. She wore an oversized straw hat on her head and dainty little jeweled flip flops on her feet. She looked like every damn summer fantasy I'd ever had.
"Yeah, I'm going with you," I stated, giving my head a singular firm nod. "Ain't no way in fuckin' hell, babe."
"What do you mean?" Lennie asked with a frustrated scoff. "What did I do?"
"Look at you! I'm not about to let you go off on your own."
"Colton, stop it," Lennie commanded. "We're on a fuckin beach. I'm allowed to dress like we're on a fucking beach."
"I'm not saying that you aren't. I'm just saying... I'm going with you."
"What do you think is going to happen?" Lennie asked, popping her hip, and resting her fist on it in that sassy way only she could. "The store is like... three blocks away, and me, Cora, and Mel are all going. You're being ridiculous."
"You don't know this place, or these people..."
"No one is going to attack a group of women, Colt. And you know me better than to think that I'd let em survive if they did. I carry a can of mace for fuck's sake."
"Len..."
"No, Colt. You're staying here with the boys. We got a bunch of booze and games and stuff that are going to show up and honestly, I think you could use a drink."
I laughed and shook my head. "You're probably not wrong."
She smirked and shook her head as she stepped toward me, draping her arms over my shoulders in a way that sent a chill through my bones. "Sometimes this over-protective alpha male stuff is super-hot, and sometimes it's super obnoxious..."
"What is it today?" I asked, not disguising the fact that my eyes were latched onto her breasts as I wrapped my hands around her hips and slid my fingers into the belt loops of her shorts.
"Straight down the middle."
I laughed again. "I'm sorry. It's just... have you looked in the mirror lately?"
"Yeah, I look like a total babe!" Lennie grinned brightly. She then lifted onto her toes and kissed the very tip of my nose. "I'm your babe though."
"Fuckin' better be," I responded before I took her mouth.
