[Location: Albuquerque, USA]
[Date: August 27, 2054]Ruby was joining Reyes on her first mission: a sting operation. After training for several years, Ruby was now Gabriel Reyes's head lieutenant. And now they were in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, a few miles out from Route 66, and they were headed to try and take down the Deadlock Gang, a group of bandits that had been robbing banks and killing police officers all across the street, but a recent tip had shown that their base was here, in New Mexico.
Over the last few years, Ruby and Reyes had grown a close bond, closer than the rest of overwatch's founders, but Ruby couldn't form nearly as close of a bond with Jack Morrison. She knew he wasn't her father, but he reminded her too much of Tai. Reyes had noticed, and had asked Ruby why she seemed so scared of Morrison, and Ruby told him about her abusive father. Eventually, Ruby cleared the air with Morrison, but she still felt guarded around him due to her past. Meanwhile, Ruby and Reyes had started to form an almost father-daughter relationship of their own. Reyes was often away from the base for long periods of time, and never gave an explanation, but Ruby wanted to trust him, since they were both operating in a Black Ops division.
As the two of them reached the street they were headed to, they emerged from the small rental car in street clothes and had entered a small bar nearby. Sure enough, they found the members of the Deadlock gang cheering and drinking up a storm, with two of the more notable members, Ashe and Cassidy, kissing each other by the darts area.
Ruby gagged internally, before turning to Reyes. "Alright, have fun or whatever. I'm headed to the dart boards."
Reyes nodded as the two split apart, with Ruby picking up some darts and getting ready to play. An Omnic member of the deadlock gang, Bars, approached her soon after.
"Looking for a game of darts, little miss?" The omnic asked. "How about a competitor?"
Ruby smirked. "Why not?"
The two started off playing the game, and Bars went first, clearly holding back since he was both an omnic and a sniper. Ruby smiled and threw her darts quickly, not really trying to win, just to hit the target. Soon, though, it developed into a fierce competition, with both putting much more effort into it. The two had even attracted the attention of Cassidy and Ashe, who stopped making out long enough to start watching them. And to the surprise of everyone but Ruby and Reyes, the young huntress was dominating the Omnic. Soon, Bars forfeited the game, congratulating her on her skill cordially since neither of them had bet any money on it, before Ashe and Cassidy came down to talk to her.
"That's a good throwing arm you got there, girl," Cassidy greeted with a handshake, which Ruby accepted.
"Well, I do enjoy hunting," she smirked. "Same skills, really."
Ashe chuckled. "I like you kid. Names Liz, and this is Cassidy. Wanna play against us?"
Ruby smirked. "Name's Ruby, and sure."
The three of them began competing against each other. Meanwhile, Ruby saw that Reyes had been competing against the other two founders of the deadlock gang, Frankie and Julian, in a drinking game of some sort. Ruby knew that the operation was going well.
Ruby had to admit she was actually having fun competing against Ashe and Cassidy. The only person she'd known in Overwatch who could actually give her some level of competition in these kinds of things was Ana, so having an actual challenge made Ruby extremely happy. That didn't mean Ruby wasn't winning, it just wasn't by as wide of a margin. If the two hadn't been extremely drunk already, they might've actually beat her, and that made Ruby excited.
During all of this, though, Ruby kept analyzing where everyone was in the room. The triplets and Bars were playing pool, and there was a much larger Omnic in the corner, doing nothing but watching the area where Ashe was. Ruby assumed that this was B.O.B., the Omnic Butler of Ashe. Ruby still wanted to know what B.O.B. stood for, but that wasn't the point right now.
