Ruby Rose: Blackwatch Agent

Prologue: Runaway

[Date: Huo Neptune, Usagitokki, 80 AGW] 

Ruby was sitting in Professor Port's class, on the first day of school, still cooling off after her and her sister had a fight. Yang wanted Ruby to go back home, she thought that Beacon was "too dangerous" for Ruby, but Ruby wanted to be a huntress. Weiss and Blake had had to physically restrain Ruby and Yang from attacking each other, and Blake had taken Ruby to the side to ask her what was going on between her and her sister. Ruby had reluctantly told her part of the truth, about how Yang thought she was too frail to fight because apparently Ruby looked just like her mom, who was now dead. Blake comforted her, and told her not to worry about it, and that she could prove Yang wrong.

Now, Ruby was sitting in class as Weiss glared at the back of her head for no reason, boredom staring at the board as the teacher droned on and on about his past. Eventually, he said something that got her attention.

"Now, who wants a chance to prove that they have what it takes to be a true huntsman or huntress?" Professor Port asked. Ruby quickly raised her hand, and was called up.

Ruby used her semblance to run to the changing room and put on her combat clothes, grabbed her weapon, and checked her ammo before returning to the classroom. She was glad she did, as someone had switched out her normal ammo for rubber ammunition, and she quickly fixed that with an ammo cartridge that she pulled from her backpack, which did have live ammo.

Ruby returned with her hood up, and her rifle in her hands. She didn't even look at her team as Port nodded to her, and used his axe to unleash three Boarbatusks into the room. Ruby focused her attention, and quickly shot the first one before it could even recognize that she was there. The other two Boarbatusks charged at Ruby, and she unfurled her rifle into a scythe. Firing a shot behind her, she dashed forwards with the recoil and knocked one of the Grimm back with the blunt side of the scythe, the hit sending it crashing into the cage it had previously been trapped in and flattening it. Ruby then sliced off one of the tusks of the other Boarbatusk as it missed her in its charge, causing it to screech in pain as it slammed its body into the desk behind Ruby. The tusk clattered at Ruby's feet as the two Boarbatusk eyed her from opposite sides. Ruby grinned, and kicked the tusk into the air as she fired a shot behind her, killing the Boarbatusk she had sliced of the tusk of, and propelling herself towards the final Grimm as she brought her scythe under the beast and stabbed it through its soft underbelly, the tip of her scythe sprouting out the back of the pig-like Grimm before Ruby fired her rifle a final time, propelling her backwards as she launched the Grimm into it's dead companion, killing it. She then folded up her weapon and stowed it away under her cloak before raising her hand and catching the horn that she had sliced off earlier, which she decided she would hollow out into a horn.

"Bravo, young lady!" Port exclaimed happily. "It would appear we are in the presence of a true huntress in training!"

Ruby smiled and thanked her teacher before returning to her seat, though she still felt Weiss's eyes on her.

Soon, the class ended, and she felt Weiss pull her by her hood out of the classroom as she brought her to a balcony.

"What was that?" Weiss asked angrily.

"What do you mean?" Ruby asked.

"Where did you learn to fight like that? How did you learn to fight at all? Yang told me that your father never trained you!"

"I convinced my uncle to teach me how to use a scythe, and I practiced shooting Yang's toy rifle while she was at school. I'm a quick study."

Weiss fumed. "I thought we agreed you would stop trying to show off!"
