... My name is Hannah. I am 13 years old, older than most who set off on their adventures. Today when I wake up, I'll go to the Professor's lab and meet my new partner. But I can't now... because I am in a dream...
A mountain tall as the atmosphere its self disappears into the clouds above. I ride my feathery wings up the jagged rocks... to the meeting of the Legends...
The wide doors fly open, and moonlight streams into the hall. A booming voice ahead of me thunders, "Soulstice! Close the door and join us!"
Following the voice orders, I fly down the corridor until it opens into a massive meeting room. All legendary Pokemon are present...except one; I can't quite put my finger on it...
Shaymin motions for me to take a seat by her. "Soulstice, where have you been?"
Who is this Soulstice everyone keeps mentioning? I reply as if not using my own voice: "Out for a joy ride on the other side of the world. It was heck getting here."
Everyone quiets down as the Pokemon God Arceus begins to speak. I shiver in his presence. "I have called you all here to discuss an issue that has arisen on Earth. Some of you may have heard of Team Dusk? This evil organization has plans to capture all of us and use our powers for... that part wer don't know."
Mew squeaks up, in a voice much fitting for such a carefree Pokemon, I think. "That's easily fixed, we just stick together and there's no way they can take us!"
"On the contrary Mew. I need you to scatter, stay hidden, stay safe."
"Wait-" Lugia and Mewtwo interject at the same time. Arceus sends the psycic types a sharp glare. Lugia backs down, but Mewtwo returns the face.
"You will leave tonight. Scatter the world and don't come out of hiding beyond my command."
With a flash the dream is over. I wake up breathing heavily. Why, I have no clue. That dream, it is fading faster than mist in the sun. Oh right, today is that day.
I pull on some clothes, a light blue shirt with a rainbow and cyan pants, green and blue sneakers, a sequin cabby hat. In the bathroom I pull my shoulder length red hair into a shortish ponytail and fasten star-shaped aquamarine earrings in my ears. Staring into my verdant eyes, illuminated by gold flecks, I feel confident and sure. I know I'm ready to pick my partner. I can put that wierd dream behind me.
In the middle of rushing out the door, my mom stops me. "Hannah, wait! You were just going to leave without saying goodbye to your mother?"
I blink, then smile. "Oh yeah," I answer mareepishly.
She smirks back. "Here, don't forget your running shoes, and a Poke ball to catch your new friend in. Call me as soon as you reach the next town, okay?"
"Promise!" I shout, already out the door.
The Professor's house is on the edge of town, a pretty high-tech looking building compared to the quaint two-stories that make the rest of Comet Town. Inside is row after row of tables, bizzare experiments scattered about them. A large man is conversing to some small people at the back of the room. "Professor?" I call.
"Oh, Hannah?" He turns to me. Professor Pine is a heavy man, always wearing garden gloves and rain boots. "I can't say I was expecting you this early..." He scratched the back of his head and suddenly stumbled forward and fell. Three Pokemon are to blame, showing themselves.
The first is a fire type, small and orange with two black stripes on its back and rounded ears (looks like a tiger). It glances around, looking thoroughly disgusted at what it saw, until it set eyes on me. Cocking its head, it seemed to nod with approval.
The second is a grass type, some sort of stain adorning its fluffy chest and its face round and friendly (looks like a koala).
The third, clearly a water type, is a lightish blue and scampers up to you on all fours, water-drop-shaped marks over its eyes and shining iridescant scales (looks like a lizard).
"Ah, yeah these guys have been growing a little impatient not being adopted by any trainers. You're allowed to choose one to be your first Pokemon," the professor explains.
"Gosh, only one?" I ask. Now I'm nervous. What If I don't pick the right 'mon? Professor Pine nods and scratches his head. "What's the first gym?"
"Hm, the first gym... that would be Silvia, the shining ice-type gym leader."
"Okay, then I'll take the fire type. Fire melts ice." I hold up the Poke ball my mom gave me.
"Excellent! Take good care of Solkit, okay? She can be difficult sometimes, but if you train any Pokemon they'll be a faithful partner."
"I promise!" I quickly say, and kneel down to my new partner. She looks at me defiantly, then seems to smile. Then she paws the button on the Poke ball and reverts to energy, dissapearing inside. One, two, three-click! My partner is officially mine.
