During the week and a half that Pearce was here, we ended up exchanging socials. And just like the many nights before, it was three in the morning. We decided to call this little late night hangout of ours 'Ritual Talk', courtesy of Pearce. He was definitely making fun of me now. "I still can't believe you call our late night hangouts 'Ritual Talk'. Couldn't you have called it 'The Overdue Late show with Jay and Pearce'?" I asked before taking a sip of my water. "Nah. That's way too long. And besides, it was three in the morning when I first popped up so..." He let his sentence hang in the air as he fixed his position next to me.
Yes. You heard right folks. We went from sitting on opposite sides of the room to sitting next to each other. Now this is what I call good character growth. "Hey Pearce?" Pearce looked down at me and I could tell he was a bit tired. "Do you think we'll still talk to each other after you leave?" I asked him. I soon regretted asking when I realized that I didn't want to know the answer. What if Pearce was only being nice to me because I was giving him a place to stay? What if he didn't even want to be near me? What if he secretly hates me? "Of course we will. It would be kinda dumb if we didn't." He responded matter-of-factly. He really answered me like I asked the dumbest question in the world. I looked up at him and smiled like he'd just presented me with a hundred presents on Christmas Day. He smiled when he saw my expression and pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back almost immediately trying not to seem to excited.
I completely failed at that.
This was the first hug we had together, and I will never forget this moment.
