"Luna is going to kill me," Lillian thought to herself as the waves carried her around as she tried to spot her sister's ship.
Luna is one of the toughest pirate captains that Lillian knows, and her being a female makes her all that much more impressive. There are not a lot of female captains as males tend to think they are too weak.
Luna was quick to whip her crew into shape and show how strong she is. Luna has only one weakness, Lillian. Luna and Lillian are twins with Luna being born first. Not only is she technically the oldest, but Lillian was born weaker and has struggled health-wise her whole life.
If their parents were still alive, Lillian knows she would have been left at home with them. They aren't though, so Luna allowed Lillian to join her crew.
Even with everyone knowing Lillian and knowing she is a member of the crew, Luna usually had her stay in their cabin. Being one of the most feared pirates makes their ship a target for other pirates as well as the royal fleet.
Lillian is usually fine with this, but when the ship gets caught in a bad storm, she feels the need to help. She now regrets ever stepping out of the cabin. She isn't even sure anyone knows she had, so they may not know she is out there.
Lillian had just barely made it out of the cabin when a piece of the mast snapped off. As it went overboard, some of the ropes caught her, and she went with it. Lillian was able to get ahold of the mast and cling to it as the storm raged and carried her away from the ship.
Now it is daytime, and the storm has completely cleared. Lillian is starting to feel tired from fighting the waves that wanted to knock her away from the mast all night.
Even though she wanted to sleep, she looked around for any signs of the ship. She sees none though. All she can see is the fin of a shark coming towards her.
As the shark nears, Lillian quickly scrambles and pulls herself onto the mast. There is no way it will protect her completely as she is still too close to the water, but it is the best she can do.
Seeing the shark gave Lillian an adrenaline boost, which woke her up, but it did not last long. She felt even more tired than she was. She tries to fight it, but the exhaustion is too much.
She doesn't know how long she had been out, but when she wakes again, the shark is still close by. That is not what gets her attention though. What gets her attention is the sight of her sister's ship coming slowly towards her.
Lillian tries to sit up, but exhaustion still clings to her body, making it hard to move. All she can do is wait and hope someone spots her as she sees the shark finally leave.
As the ship nears, Lillian tries to sit up again, but she still cannot get her body to move.
In the end, she does not have to move as there is suddenly a shout from the ship, and she can see it start heading her way. Once the ship is close, Lillian smiles as her sister quickly dives off the ship and swims over to her.
"Lil, are you ok?" Luna asks, laying her hand on Lillian's back.
"I am grateful to see you. I was starting to think I was going to be shark food," Lillian says, smiling at her sister.
"Shark?" Luna asks, quickly looking around them before waving for the crew to lower the ladder and move the ship closer.
"He disappeared when you guys showed up."
"Well, let's get you back to safety before he decides to show up again. Can you swim to the ship?"
"I think so."
Luna sticks close to Lillian and helps her swim over to the ship before helping her up the ladder. Almost everyone on the crew is at the top of the ladder and helps the both of them on board.
Lillian lets herself sink onto her knees as one of the crew wraps a blanket around her shoulders.
Luna kneels next to her and brushes the hair from Lillian's face, looking her over for any wounds.
"I'm fine, sis. I'm just tired from being tossed around all night," Lillian says, giving Luna a small smile.
"How did you end up out there? You were in the cabin," Luna says, taking an extra blanket from the crew and wrapping it around Lillian over top of the other blanket.
"I wanted to help, but when the mast broke, it took me over with it," Lillian says, hanging her head to not see the disappointment on Luna's face. She is shocked though when Luna suddenly pulls her into a hug.
"I was so worried when I couldn't find you," Luna says, laying her hand against the back of Lillian's head.
"Captain, she needs to be warmed and dried soon so she doesn't get sick. Besides, I think she passed out," the second in command says, squatting next to Luna. Luna looks at him, confused, before looking at Lillian and seeing she is out cold.
"Help me get her to the cabin," Luna says. The man is quick to stand before helping Luna stand and hold onto Lillian. As they make their way towards the cabin, Luna tries to reassure the crew that Lillian is alright.
"Get this ship headed towards the nearest safe harbor," the second in command says to the crew, causing Luna to look at him. "It would be wise to have a doc look her over. Besides, we are running low on supplies. The storm made us lose a bunch."
At this point, they are in the cabin, and Luna eases Lillian down onto one of the beds in the room.
"You are right. Head to shore."
Once the second in command has left, Luna dries Lillian off, gets her into dry clothes, and covers her up with one of the thicker blankets they own.
"I'm sorry," Luna hears suddenly, turning to see Lillian looking at her with barely opened eyes.
"Oh, Lil, you have no reason to apologize," Luna says, crawling into the bed beside her sister and holding her close.
"I caused you problems again," Lillian says, coughing a little. Luna reaches out and lays her hand against Lillian's head, frowning at the warmth she feels.
"You did no such thing. Now, close your eyes and rest. As soon as we get to shore, I'll have someone come check to make sure you're ok," Luna says. Lillian nods slightly before closing her eyes and doing as she was told. Luna sighs as she looks at her sister and vows to keep a better eye on her.
