Xenia POV

It's been a tough time since I ran away from the foster home. They treated me well, and the people there were very kind. But there was just this part of me that couldn't be there, I needed to be free.

Agua Dulce, my city, is so closed of from everything. It's a dessert that is mostly sunny and if it gets snow, we're lucky. Dread always feels me in that city, I have this longing feeling to get out and explore.

It's like something you just can't figure out about yourself, even if it's so simple.

That's why I ran away, the feeling inside of me was about to explode. I've been sensing someone following me, doesn't really feel like a person, but an animal. If it indeed is an emergency I have no one to call, you can blame the foster home for that. They wouldn't allow us to get any type of technological devices. I managed to smuggle an iPod just to listen to music, but it was soon taken away from me.

I suddenly hear a heavy breathing, snorting, and really loud steps. It sound like a big animal, I can only wrap my thoughts around a cow or a horse. What would a cow or horse be doing here? I just keep walking, more rapidly this time. I'm unsure of what I heard, and I'm not sticking around to find out. It's early in the morning, about 3 am. It's still dark, therefore I need to be careful of where I go. I'm fifteen and indeed have a driver's PERMIT. Hence the permit, I can't drive outside of this city, which is pretty much the reason why I'm not driving. Oh yeah... and well um... I don't have a car so even with a permit, I can't drive.

I hear my stomach growl as if I had't eaten in years. I'm really starving and realize it was a good thing I saved more than $300 for this trip. Yes, I'm a smart girl.

I've told you all about my escape plan, but I haven't told you anything about me, how rude of me. Well hi, I'm Xenia. Most people can't pronounce my name so I just go by X---yeah, I love that, I won't respond to anything else. I have blue eyes, with dark brown curly hair. I ended up in a foster home, that's all there is to it. I just ended up there. The people there never told me anything about my family, or any connections to me whatsoever. In that case, I have no one. It's something really upsetting, I've always dreamed of a big family to be around. I don't recall much of my childhood, I just remember my mother's eyes were like mine, piercing blue.

Oh God, my stomach is grumbling. I need to find a place to eat, and fast. I find a Denny's, and quickly step inside. I really like the food in this joint. especially the grilled cheese, and it's cheap. I come to the front counter and the lady seats me, I can sense she finds me being here alone weird. I don't mind, as long as she gives me food. Before I sit down, I sense a boy looking at me intently. His stare is creepy, and I'm 99% percent sure it's not the same odd stare the waitress gave me. His look is more "I-will-look-at-every-step-you-take" type of look.

I just let it go as my food has arrived. I stare at my food like an idiot, as if I'm going to marry it. The lady must feel sorry for me, I hate pity. If people want to be kind let them, but not out of pity I hate it. She leaves me asking if I need anything else, and I reply politely. I devour my food, and pay the bill, I leave a tip since the waitress gave me a coupon. As soon as I get off of my seat, so does the creepy staring boy.

After a few minutes of walking, I realize he is following me. Oh so you want to play that game? I know this city better than I know the back of my hand. It's so little, and I 've lived here for so many years. In that case, I decide to take this prat for a joy ride.

I turn left and right so many different times. I stay in a store for a while then leave. I hear him loosing his patience because of his exasperated sighs. When I can't hear his every step after mine, I relax.

I'm walking down the street and sit at a bus stop. I'm deciding to take a bus and get as far away from here as possible. You could say I'm winging it.

As I wait at the bus stop, a massive dark shadow passes in front of me. At first I thought it was the creepy boy and got annoyed. Then I started thinking that the creepy boy was my height, and did look my age, so the shadow that casted could not be him.

I try to put myself at ease by singing a song by one of my favorite bands, camila. It's a Mexican band, and their songs reach deep into your soul. Oh yeah, by the way I speak Spanish, I forgot to mention. As I'm singing "Entre Tus Alas" I hear growling. Not just dog growling, but more like wolf growling. I'm pretty much scared and I can't think of any way to calm myself.

I then see a big, horrible creature, running towards me. My life flashes before my eyes, as everything goes dark.
