It was dark. Lightning was what dominated outside the walls of my humble home. There was no rain but the freezing breeze of cold managed to relay us the message of the downpour's steady arrival.

One, two, three and four. The rain drops slowly, trying to balance the sound of the droplets as it hit the roof. I reached my hand to the handle of the window lock and carefully opens it. My hand crawls outside, allowing the rain to claim what was mine.

My eyes traveled to the sky and admired every piece of lightning that served as the night light. I always loved the rain in combination with the roar of the sky but the thought of having homeless people soaking wet momentarily made me dismiss the admiration.

"Supper's ready!"

Words far from a subtle one escaped my ears but I stayed thoughtless on the window while extending my arms outside. A spoon was banged on the plate, calling my very presence. I was acting numb and deaf, too estranged by the second downpour.

My fingers caress each other, spreading the water from my palm. It was such solemnity and peace that had my mind trapped in a pit of light and darkness. Yet, loud footsteps came to brush me off my measureless thinking.

I awaited the entrance of another scolding after closing my ears to the statement that was spoken. I was more than a hundred percent certain that it was my Aunt who was standing behind me, having her foot ticking on the floor and her hands above her waist.

She starts with a sigh. "Shut the windows, dear child." she softly speaks.

Her hands entered my vision as she tried to pull my arms back inside. I did not try to insist and just allowed her to do her thing. She closes the windows and locks them. As her eyes met mine, she sits down beside me and gets a handkerchief from her pocket.

"The cold bothers you, don't they?" she calmly asks while she wipes my hand going to my forearm.

I did not hesitate to shake my head before uttering a word. "No," I answer.

She chuckles upon hearing my short response. "Then I suppose you want to go out and get soaked in the rain?"

"No," I answer the same word.

The moment she hears my answer, she puts down my hand on her lap and gazes me with her dark brown eyes. "Then, what? Don't tell me you want to see the lightning meet the ground again?"
