JJ picked at her dinner that night and then excused herself to her room for the night. She climbed the stairs numbly and as she walked down the hall she passed her mothers room, she would go in there later she just did not have the strength nor the energy to go in. She walked into her room and plopped down on her bed and stared at the ceiling. She lay there wondering why is this happening? I don't even know the man who is supposed to be my dad and the expect me to just move in with a stranger? This sucks! She lay there thinking about what she had to do to prepare for the big move. She knew that she was gonna miss her home Florida has been her home for the last 12 years. Of all places to move to he lives in Arkansas.
JJ drifted off to sleep.
The next morning JJ shot out of bed like she was electrocuted. She ran to her moms room and starting knocking, mom! We are late hurry up. JJ ran down stairs and started coffee for her mom and she started to make her some breakfast. When a cop stood in the entryway to the kitchen, I heard you yelling upstairs, is everything OK? JJ froze, it was not a dream, was it? She could see the pity in his eyes as he shook his head indicating that it was not a dream. I'm sorry if I woke you.
No, you did not wake me.
Are you OK?
JJ just stared at the counter and she looked up at Weston with tears threatening to escape.
I have to be strong that's what mom would want. So no more tears. I am gonna start getting everything ready and in order before I have to move.
Weston sighed, JJ you have the right to show emotion. You can't kelp it bottled up. Its not healthy.
I am not ready to talk to anyone right now. I just don't know what I am supposed to feel. I am just really confused.
I understamd , he said and he sat at the table and began to read the the paper. They sat in silence while they had their breakfast.
JJ about flew out of the chair when the phone rang, h-hello?
Sgnt Weston got up and stood next to JJ, he could tell that she was uncomfortable talking to whoever was on the phone.
After a brief conversation she hung the phone up.
Well? He asked.
That was my dad. H-he knows about mom and he is catching the next flight out. This is a good thing, right?
I-i guess, I am not really sure how I am supposed to feel. I mean I don't really know the man.
JJ he can't be all that bad if he is willing to drop everything to come be with you.
Well I guess we will find out. I have so much to do, is there anyway you could get a truck so that I can donate items I don't want to take with me?
Sure not a problem.
Thank you.
She went and sat at the table and made the phone calls to arrange the funeral and talked to her moms attorney and set up a time for the reading of the will.
By the time she had finished all of that it was about noon.
She wondered upstairs and stopped in front of her moms bedroom door. Here goes nothing she mumbled to herself as she pushed the door open.
