You spent your whole life waiting for Kunikida to as you one question: "Be mine?"
You imagined the day would be a happy day. His ideals said to wait for a certain day though, so you waited. Never once dating another.
Dazai found entertainment in teasing you, it being obvious to everyone but Kunikida that you were crushing hard.
Dazai even asked you to double suicide with him. You always responded with "Now is not the time for that."
So today you did a little extra to get ready, your makeup a little more on point. After all, today is the day.
Just as lunch starts you smile and look to Kunikida, like clockwork, "Ready for lunch at the Café?"
"Actually I have something on the way." He says casually.
You tilt your head curiously, "Oh?"
"Yes. Iliz is bringing by lunch for me." He smiles some as he says it.
"OH? Who's that?" You question, already having a sickening feeling in your heart.
"My girlfriend." He looks up, a smile bright on his face.
You force a smile and nod, "Congratulations. About time. Well I'm off then."
He nods and looks at his watch.
You leave, not even caring that you hear someone following you. Soon, you arrive to the nearby bridge and sit on the edge. Not even a minute later and Dazai has plopped down next to you silently watching the water, waiting for you to speak.
"Wanna commit double suicide?" You ask, a defeated and sad tone compared to your normal upbeat attitude.
"Now is not the time for that." He says softly, taking your hand in his gently. It's a softer side than you'd ever seen from him before, and it warms your heart just a little. "You know I will always be there for you. Right?"
You look at your hands and sigh, "Be honest. Was I ever an option to him?"
"Does it matter now? After all, you may not be his pick, but you are another members pick. And everyone at the Agency enjoys having you around." He comments casually.
You look up to him fron your hands and lock eyes before looking away, feeling flustered.
"OH DON'T GET SHY ON ME NOW, Y/N/N!!!" He whines playfully.
"I WILL SHOVE YOU INTO THIS RIVER!" You squeal, laughing and looking at him again.
"There's your smile... plus, you'd never throw me in the rive." He smirks.
"Yeah. For now. Your holding my hand still. I'd go down with you and we'd both be soaked." You roll your eyes and look back at the river. A sigh escapes your lips.
All the years with Kunikida and you two never really felt as close, not that you think of it. Maybe he kept you around out of pity?
"You were in his book. As his ideal friend. You mean a lot to him. And a lot to me. You took me by surprise with that." He admits.
You feel a blush creep onto your face. "Thanks Dazai..."
