The purge

Chapter 1

Today is the day. Today is the day of misery. The day of despair. The day that everybody dreads. Nobody loves this day. No one has for the last 9 years. Yes, 9 years this has happened. Has the government tried to stop it? Nope. They love to torcher us. And now your probably thinking, 'what is this person talking about?', 'why is she saying this?'.

Well let me tell you a few things about myself, my name is Kira. When I turned seven the government decided that the country was to overpopulated and that they needed a way to get rid of people. So how did they decide to do it? Your probably thinking, 'They sent out a disease that would go through and kil everyone.'. Nope. Not even close. They decided that blood was the best option.

They call it the purge.

Once a year there will be a broadcast on the news saying that the purge will start at a certain time. Once that time hits, you get a mark. The mark tells you what side of the purge you are on. If you get an orange mark, your a part of the hunters. The oranges are the people that we fear during the purge. They hunt and murder innocent people just because they are told to. I hate the oranges, even though my family is always apart of them. Ive never killled anyone though. Its just wrong in my opinion. But the government always changes the rules. Now if you don't kill anyone during the purge, your leader kills you. The leaders of the oranges are the reds. They plan the attacks on the innocents. They're the murderers.

If you aren't picked to be on the orange side, then you are stuck with the greens. The greens are the ones that hide, they're the innocent people that are being murdered. The greens have leaders as well. These are the blues, they decide what the best way to hide is.

Now that im 14, I have to murder people if im chosen as one of the oranges. I don't want to, I hate seeing people being murdered.

But now it seems like I don't have a choice.

Me and my brother Kayden were sitting on the couch together. We decided to spend this time together because sometimes families get seperated during the purge. It's horrible seeing families killing each other. My best friend had to kill her sister, and it was so hard for me to hear about that. I couldn't even imagine hurting or killing my brother on purpose.

After what seemed like hours the announcement went of saying that the purge has started. Me and Kayden just looked at each other with a blank stare, but we both knew what it meant.

'Good luck'

I walked to my bedroom to prepare myself for what mark I was going to get. All I could see was people being murdered, blood everywhere on the ground. Their were about a million thougts going through going through my head.

I finally told myself to look in the mirror to see what mark I had, even though I knew what mark it was going to be. It was most likely going to be orange. Thats what we are every year.

I pulled my head to look at the mirror. And what I saw made my jaw drop.

Their was a dark red mark on my face.
