“Hey don’t worry,” spoke a woman in a soft voice, “I have it too, look.”

She slowly brought her hand out and made light appear around it that had a yellowish orange glow. It wasn’t fire but it was a beautiful glowing bright light which made me feel safe. She took my hand and made me hold some of her own yellow glow; but the beautiful glow soon started to become dark and then turned to blackish purple. I became scared because it didn’t feel safe anymore. I panicked and I wanted it to be put out so I started to shake my hand really quickly. The lady tried to stop me, but it was too late. We were far behind from the boarding school; we were near the woods during late fall, but someone spotted us and started to come forward. I started to run ignoring the lady’s pleading calls. I went straight to the dorm room where the other girls were. I ran into my bed and covered myself with my blanket.

“We just watched what you did. Looks like you got in trouble again.” Spoke one of the girls who were about my age.

“Yeah, why do you keep doing those things with your hands, you’ll get this place shut down if you don’t start acting normal!” yelled another girl who was the biggest of the bunch.

I woke up twenty minutes late for school.  My hands were sweaty and cold, and my feet felt a bit numb.  It must have been from the odd dream I had.  I just sat on my bed thinking about what I had just dreamt of. I realized my hair had also become white while I did. My dream made no sense but at the same time it did because I didn’t recognize anyone. The only thing which made sense was that it felt familiar.

I realized I just wasted a lot of time and this is my first day of school and I’m already screwing it up. I got dressed in all black really quickly because you can never go wrong with black. I needed to calm down so that my hair can turn back to normal, but it wasn’t happening.

I packed my bag with some papers, notebooks, pens, pencils and highlighters. I didn’t have enough time for breakfast therefore I left with only a peach to eat on my way to school. Carol had given me directions to my new school and told me how to use public transit.

Just as I have arrived to school I noticed there were many other students who were making their way into the building. I followed the rest to make sure I wasn’t going through the wrong entrance. There were a lot of people who took interest in me because of the way I looked.  My white hair and black outfit made me stand out of the crowd.

I walked swiftly to ensure I have enough time to find the right class if I ever entered the wrong class. Luckily I did find the right class on my first try; I had English first thing in the morning and the teacher greeted every student as they walked in. The English teacher was a young female, probably in her early thirties.

I took a seat at the back of the class near the window. I couldn’t stop looking out the window.  There were many students missing from the class because they were all still finding their classes. There was an empty desk next to mine which made me worried because someone obnoxious would sit next to me, or even worse, no one would want to sit next to me because they think I’m a freak.

I noticed someone was coming over to sit next to me and unfortunately it was the boy I had met about a week before. He was approaching me but a girl dove in and took the seat. The girl introduced herself as Amber. She appeared to be a very nice person. She’s the first friendly face I’ve seen all day. She didn’t even awkwardly stare at me or question my hair colour.

While the teacher took attendance I learned everyone’s names. The weird boy that I met about a week ago is named Ned Ellington. We were allowed to do anything since it was the first class of the year therefore I took this opportunity to get to know Amber better. Amber and I started to speak about our interests and I was just praying she would not ask me where I was from. I didn’t want to be asked any personal questions. Thankfully she didn’t; instead it was normal conversations about the school and its food at the cafeteria, and today’s weather; we even exchanged numbers. Apparently it’s Amber’s first time coming to this school. I bet this will bring us closer since we are both new to the school. She took interest in my schedule and we found out we have the same homerooms and classes.
