I wake up in a room and after a few moments, I realize it's my bedroom. I instantly think that it was just a bad dream, but small clues tell me otherwise. Number one, as I try to lift myself out of bed, my body throbs with pain. A simple lick of my lower lips tells me that the stitches are there and not a part of a dream. Those horrible events really did occur.
Number two, as I slowly make my way over to the dresser and look at the pictures that fill the top, I realize they're different. They're supposed to be pictures of myself with Dylan and Lillian, my parents, but these are anything but.
I stare at the large picture frame that I don't recognize and gawk at myself in the bridesmaid's dress I had to wear at my big brother's wedding. This picture was added to the others for a reason. The picture is of myself and Colton.
That's when it all floods back, all of it leading straight to him. As I make my way around the room, looking in detail at the other pictures I see Dylan and Lillian replaced with Colton. There's even a picture that Colton took with my parents. These are very real pictures. Colton was like family.
I finish looking at the room ending at the closet and as I slowly open it I become even more hopeless. The clothes and shoes, even the purses that I took from Opal's store have been unpacked and put on hangers and shelves. He's been to my apartment.
Maybe that's why I haven't been found yet. Maybe he went after I was driven away by my attacker, the attacker he hired and cleaned the blood off the steps and gathered my things. I'm no longer sure if the police will ever be able to find me, since I've been gone for four days already. What do they say? If you don't find them in the first 48 hours you'll never find them.Without warning the door swings open, "Get changed you're wanted downstairs."
I look intently at the girl standing in the doorway. A familiar face. A girl around my age with dark hair just like mine cascading around her shoulders unlike the multiple times I saw her at Oasis where her hair was in a ponytail. The first time I saw her was when she was stockpiling bedtime tea.
"You...you were in..." I'm at a loss for words. What did she have to do with this?
"Yes, I was in your friend's store. I was there to keep an eye on you when Colton couldn't. Now, he wants you changed and downstairs. I'll be right outside waiting."
Before she has a chance to shut the door, I interrupt her retreat. "You know what, he can see me in this. I have a few words for dear ole Colton."
I don't back down and wave for her to lead the way. She does, but without an eye roll. We walk down a flight of stairs into a large open entryway. Nothing looks familiar. "What's your name?" I ask her as she continues to lead us through a series of rooms.
She's reluctant, but she finally tells me, "it's not like you're getting out of here anyways, so what the hell. I'm Amelia."
"And where am I?"
"Just because I told you my name and the confirmation of you not leaving this place doesn't mean I'm stupid enough to tell you where you are. Your reputation perceives you and I'm positive you'll try to escape and this way if you succeed, you'll be lost." Why is she so hateful? Why is she helping him? "All I can tell you is you're not in Kansas anymore and your little good witch and cowardly lion are not going to find you no matter how many creepy clues you've gathered."
When she says we're not in Kansas anymore does she mean that we're not in the city anymore? Where the hell are we then? I missed a lot while I was knocked out. And my good witch and cowardly can only be Lillian and Peter.
