She wants to get married, she wants it perfect. She wants her granddaddy preaching the service. Yeah, she wants magnolias out in the county. Not too many people, save her daddy some money. Ooh, she got it all planned out. Yeah, I can see it all right now.

This is exactly what was going through Sam Wilson's head as he watched his best friend, Y/N, dance around at their senior prom.

I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back. I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out of the flask. I'll try to make it through without crying, so nobody sees. Yes, she wanna get married. But, she don't wanna marry me.

He knew exactly what his role was going to be. No, it wasn't going to be the role that he wanted it to be, which was the groom, but he would just be a simple guest. He would stay hidden in the back, probably half-drunk, trying not to cry, because he was deeply in love with Y/N.

I remember the night when I almost kissed her. Yeah, I kinda freaked out. We'd been friends for forever.

Time skip a few years, Sam and Y/N were now out of school and had much more time on their hands. One night when they went out to eat supper, Sam remembers looking into Y/N's eyes, and slowly leaning in, with her leaning in as well, only for Bucky Barnes to interupt. Come to think of it, Sam was just a tad bit glad, because he had no idea what came over him.

And I'd always wondered, if she felt the same way. But, when I got the invite, I knew it was to late.

Y/N had been leaning in too, so did she like Sam? That is what went through Sam's head every day since that night. However, one morning, he looked in the mail, and there it was. An invitation to Y/N's wedding.

And I know her Daddy's been dreading this day, aw but he don't know he ain't the only one giving her away.

Sam knew that he had lost his chance, Y/N was going to marry Bucky. He knew that Y/N's father was not ready for the day, because he would have to give his only daughter away, but what Y/F/N didn't know is that Sam was giving her away as well.

I'll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back. I'll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out of the flask. I'll try to make it through without crying, so nobody sees. Yeah she wanna get married. But she don't wanna marry me.

He had the outfit on his bed, along with the flask. The wedding was tomorrow, and he so badly wished that it was him instead of Bucky who would say I do to Y/N tomorrow, but that was just a faded dream now.

Bet she got on her dress now, welcoming the guests now. I could try to find her, get it off of my chest now. But I ain't gonna mess it up, so I'll wish her the best now.

There Sam was, sitting the gift down on the gift table. He was already dreading the next few hours, because he knew that she would look absolutely beautiful in her dress. He was going to tell her, but he decided not to ruin the day, he was just going to make sure she's happy for the rest of her life.

So I'm in my black suit, black tie, hiding out in the back
Doing a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I'll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yeah, she wanna get married
Yeah, she gonna get married
But she ain't gonna marry me
Whoa, she ain't gonna marry me, no

There he was, just as he knew he would be. Sitting in the very back, drinking out of his flask, half- drunk, but not enough to tell. He knew there was one tear on his cheek, but he let that one down, keeping the rest up. Y/N is now saying I do, and that's the end. His dreams faded and he was left an empty shell, because she was married, but not to him.
