Ravishing the Luna

We reached Grimfur sooner than I realized. As Julian eased the car into the garage, it hit me that Grimfur was truly my home now. Home was no longer New York, but Gearhart, Oregon. Getting out of the car, Julian came around to my side and opened my door for me. He held out his hand. I took it as I carefully got out of the vehicle. My skirts were proving to be an obstacle.

Closing the door behind me, Julian pulled me to him. I inhaled sharply, placing my hands on his chest. My bouquet of flowers fell to the ground as he gathered me to him and pressed his lips to mine. He stole my breath as he deepened the kiss, tilting my head back with one hand and rubbing my mark with the other hand.

"Julian," I gasped, surprised to hear myself moan loudly. My whole body was vibrating with need. I felt a familiar heat pooling in between my legs.

"Oh Meg," he breathed, pressing his cheek to mine while I caught my breath. He angled his head and planted a line of light kisses along my cheekbone, and then along my jaw. I slipped my arms around his neck so that I could cradle the back of his head as he started to suck on my mark. The rush of pure ecstasy that raced to my core was intoxicating. My legs were going to give out any second if he didn't stop.

The shock I felt when he pulled away was uncomfortable. I reached out for him, but he did not come close again. We stared at each other, our individual panting the only sound between us.

"Julian," I whispered, swallowing hard. Why did he stop?

Reaching up, Julian swiped his thumb across my lower lip before trailing his hand down my arm to take my hand in his. "Not yet. But soon. Tonight my little spitfire."

I swallowed again, nodding at him. I wish he knew how I was dying inside. I needed release. Quelling the fire myself would be easy, but I did not want it quelled if it was not quelled by Julian.

"Come on," he said, tugging me forward. "We need to get ready for the Luna ceremony."

I nodded again, coming to his side and following him into the entry hall. One thing I knew, if I was near him for too long tonight, I wouldn't last. I'd melt into a puddle right there in front of everyone. That'd surely leave a lasting impression.

The ceremony was to begin minutes before the sun sinks below the horizon. All the members of my pack, young and old, were present, filling the rows of chairs arranged across the lawn. Mom, Clare, and some of the other women of the back had done a good job of decorating the place. There were tiki torches with globe lights strung from torch to torch. The lights burnt a hazy orange light against the ensuing dusk. A few fireflies milled about the yard, capturing the attention of several pups. At the front of the lawn was a make-shift platform. It was decorated with white, cream, and pale green flowers and swooping white banners. In the center of the stage was a gold podium. On top of the podium rested a book, a dagger, and a bowl with two gold-rimmed shot glasses.

I made my way to the stage, adjusting my tie before going up to stand on the stage. I watched the elders ascend the stage one by one. There were three in total. They'd been members of this pack for well over eighty years. Compared to wolves who were not chosen as elders, the elders lived a far longer lifespan than the rest of us. Two of the elders present had been elders when my father became Alpha of the Grimfur Walker pack.

If the elders had any misgivings about Megan as a mate or Luna, they did not raise their concerns to me. I prayed that they would not disrupt tonight's ceremony to do so now. Looking out across the sea of pack members, I spotted a shadow waiting to come forward. It was Meg. This time, my father was not waiting with her. She would be walking down the aisle alone.
