After she left me, I stood at my place for a couple of seconds, unable to perceive what has just happened. Her behavior and sudden disappearance were so unusual. This wasn't the first time that I see people acting weird but with the girl was different. I've never believed in love from the first sight nor I thought that I had any feelings for this girl other than slight empathy. I was probably that impressed because I wasn't really conscious, lacking on sleep. And actually our meeting wasn't that extraordinary. She probably was just going through tough time and didn't want to communicate with some curious guy. So I stopped thinking about her.
I realized that I should go. I left the cemetery and went to my house where I was welcomed by a complete silence. Then I slept for a few hours, uninterrupted by anyone.
It was quite obvious that my grandma was back home. She never made the effort to be quite. I heard her opening the front door and walking in with her extremely high heels which I thought that were incredibly unhealthy for her age but she would never listen to me. Combined with that, she was loudly talking on the phone.
I sighted and tried to get back to sleep but I couldn't. After a few minuted a heard Miranda shouting:
-ETHAN! COME HERE YOUR MOTHER IS ON THE PHONE!
Apparently I didn't have I choice but to get out of my bed, go downstairs and talk to my mother.
The only parent that I had was her. I practically didn't have a father because she got me by in vitro. Mum was living in Paris, while I was marooned in Greyville with grandma. She moved when I was ten but didn't take me because I couldn't speak french and "would have had a hard time learning it and getting to know the french kids". I didn't know why she didn't want me with her, besides this ridiculous reason. She probably just didn't want some dumb kid to be with her and mess in her business and private life, including her boyfriend who was supposed to be a secret but only my mother had the illusion that we don't know about him.
In the beginning she would call me everyday and we would talk for hours, telling each other everything that has happened during the day but with the time our conversations became boring, short and infrequent.
As I went in the living room Miranda shook her head, demonstrating her disapproval.
"You look awful, thank god your mother can't see you."
I didn't respond but took the phone.
"Hey, mum"
"Hey sweetheart, how are you doing?"
"Well, fine, you?"
"Me too, how is school?"
"Okay."
"Good. Well, okay, I must say goodbye now but I'll call you soon. Bye, love you!
"Bye."
I gave the phone back to my grandmother.
"That was really short, even for you two." she said.
"She couldn't talk anymore"
"Oh, okay."
As you can see family talks were dull, emotionless and short. But I had a text message from Amanda, my ex girlfriend and knew that I had to have a long conversation with her, at least so that I can find out why she broke up with me.
"Ethan, I've always thought that we are an amazing pair and everyone thought so as well. Our relationship was fine and I loved you. Never have I thought that you are such a dick and that you would fuck with that ugly whore Daisy. But you did. At first I was heartbroken but then I realized that I shouldn't cry for such a stupid boy as you. I realized that I want revenge."
