*Brian’s P.O.V.*
“It’s not about choosing between you or her. You are my wife, I love you and many years ago I gave you my word to spend my life with you. Look, I just want to give a girl a chance to work for us, to earn some money and give that girl a shelter. That’s all. There’s no reason to become jealous or accuse me of betraying to you.”
I took a long breath, searched with my eyes for Amanda if she was any close and hoped she couldn’t hear what I just said. I don’t know why that girl became so important for me within this short time that I even had the feeling of protecting her from the world outside or Michelle in this case.
“So if you really want to hire her as our new maid how much do you want to pay her?” Michelle seemed to agree to my idea all of the sudden and maybe she is open to make a proper deal. I know she would realize that Amy is a good soul and doesn’t ask for more than a second chance.
“I thought about paying her $800 per week.”
“Are you out of your mind?” she screamed so loud with her high voice that even the neighbors probably could hear this “That’s twice of a normal income of a housemaid. I don’t really think we have that money left neither she is that qualified to earn that much” she crossed her arms, believing she already won this war.
“Then you better limit your shopping from now on and we have plenty of money to pay a girl that is worth every cent. Isn’t it you that always want that house so tidy and clean? Now you got back what you wanted and since I’m the one paying her I’m also allowed to decide who we hire.”
“If she can’t even stay clean how is she able to do a good work here? And Brian do you ever think on the possibility that she might take all of our stuff and sell it cheap on some market?”
I couldn’t really figure out what her actual problem was unless the fact she might be some homeless person and yes Amy was some attractive young girl but Michelle should finally stop that any women was a threat. Even though I got used of her doubts and jealousy I remembered Matt warning me about her as well. This time I wanted to trust my instinct and I would give her a chance. She deserved one.
“She isn’t that certain person you always see on TV. Not every homeless human being is going to be a criminal” I ignored the fact that I even caught her stealing food for the minute.
“But” she raised the pointy finger against me again “If we wake up one day and find our home empty, don’t tell me I didn’t warn you Mister Haner.”
Then she rushed off, grabbed her bag and she was about to go upstairs before she went back to Amy. I positioned myself in a way that I could go between them any minute.
“Just stay away from my man. If I see you both close ever again you better pray to god for your life.”
Amy stood quiet at her place and just nodded like a little school girl that has been told off. Michelle seemed convinced and went upstairs. I waited till I heard the door slamming into the lock before I continued with our conversation.
“I’m really sorry about her behavior. She is usually a lovely girl that only needs her certain time with new people. Just give her some days and show what genuine person you are.”
I cracked a little smile to let her know everything was basically alright. I tried to be an optimist and hoped everything would cool down and we all could all live happily together.
“Don’t worry” she waved with her hand “I was living a long time on the street and believe me I’ve learnt how to deal with even worse people. She is harmless compared to any other.
