"DEREK COULD YOU PLEASE JUST CALM DOWN?" I said into the phone.

Derek has called me about five times since I left our house. Today was my first day of school and he was more anxious than I was about it. He currently listed ─for the millionth time─ every item I should have in my bag for the first day of school, in a completely calm and collected way.

Note the sarcasm.

"We triple-checked before I left the house and double-checked ever since I reached the school." I cut him off, "Please, calm down, everything's gonna be just fine. Also, you know this conversation should be the other way around, right?"

"This may be funny to you, but not to me. Now, be nice, remember what we talked about and I'll come pick you up after school."

"Don't you dare-" I began, before he hung up, making me roll my eyes and turn off my phone.

Placing the device in the back pocket of my jeans, I started walking towards the double doors of the school. Every other student had long before headed into the building at the ring of the bell. But the new students were told to visit the principal's office for instructions before joining the rest of the class.

"Mom, three calls on my first day is a little overdoing it."

I heard a voice from behind me and I snorted out a laugh as I saw that not only Derek had been overdoing it today.

"Did you take everything?" The person on the other end asked.

"Everything except a pen. Oh my God, I didn't actually forget a pen." The girl said as she rummaged through her bag, "Okay, okay. I gotta go. Love you." She finalised, closing the phone hurriedly, "Hey, excuse me?" She called.
