"Okay" Bryan said. Obviously a little surprised.
"Okay. So don't call anymore."
"Okay. Bye" Bryan said quietly.
"Bye."
It felt good to be free of Bryan's firm hold on my life. I nearly forgot about meeting Lydia at the mall at 10. It was already 9:30. I threw on skinny jeans with a cat sweater, brushed my hair, and walked down to the bus stop.
I arrived at the mall and started looking for Lydia. She spotted her talking to a fairly attractive boy at a smoothie stand. I walked over.
"Hey" I said.
"Hey girl!!!! Happy birthday!!!!"
"Ha. I almost forgot." I said giggling.
I looked at the boy then back at Lydia.
"Who's this?" I said motioning to the boy.
"This is Derek. I was going to get you a smoothie then we started talking."
"Oh Lydia guess what."
"What?"
"I did it. I dumped him"
"OMFG congrats!!!!!"
She looked at Derek and explained my whole situation to him.
"Hey maybe we could hang out sometime? I have a friend that just got over a nasty divorce. I'm sure he would love to have some 'girl friends' to hang out with." Derek said.
"Sure! Here's my digits." Lydia said, not bothering to hide her crush on him.
"Let's go hang." Lydia walked away, only a turn of the head and a small wink told Derek that she was leaving.
