"Oh shut it,"

your bestfriend Eugene had demanded with a joking tone, smiling playfully behind his black mask. At the moment, everyone was in the meeting room, discussing who got what jobs for the week. "No. I'm serious. I think Eugene should start growing food, with that terrific green thumb of his and all."

You were referring back to the dozens of stories he had told you- how he killed not one, two- but three cacti by underwatering them. A small smile crept upon Zions face, but nobody else seemed to know what you were going off about.

"Alright, onto the next topic. Scavenging? Ethan and Jay for this week, you two can go and check how up the block near that restaurants is currently doing." Ethan nodded with a monotone expression and Jay fell silent, a disgusted emotion plastered his face. "Why me?"

The rest of the group fell silent. Jay never did anything; especially if it was outside of these walls. We all looked towards him with uncurved lips. "Fine okay, if I have to..."

"Well!" Lawrnece smiled and clapped his hands together enthusiastically, "Y/N, Eugene. You're on night watch for inside, Zion, Sue. You're outside." Everybody nodded silently, looking towards the leader. "That concludes todays discussion, now try to go rest before night watch begins."

Everybody quickly began pouring out of the classroom, tending ti their personal rooms. "Kind of a bummer, no?" I heard a familiar voice next to me, looking over it was the usual blonde. "What? Patrol?" I shrugged my arms.

"Just wish Lawrence would give me a real job- scavenging or something. He thinks I'm like a gentle glass doll or something..." Eugene looked over towards you with amused eyes, "I wish we could trade places. Scavenging sucks... Isn't it better to be the favorite, no leaving, no potentially getting killed?"

You shook your head slightly, "not always..." favoritism was apparent, Lawrence made sure of it with his constant sheltering and overbearing protection. You felt like a lamb compared to the others, you had to beg for a measly night watch for God's sake.

Eugene shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, "could be worse. At least you don't need to run around outside in the cold. No near death experiences like everyone else."

"Hey... I didn't mean it that way, alright?" He continued walking with you throughout the halls. "Its just... I feel useless compared to all of you." The boy nodded his head with closed eyes, lifting his arms up to his head. "Yea yea, I know..."

"Listen, I'm sorry... I didn't say that that to be ungrateful or bitchy, just..." You paused for a moment, eying your door as the two of you finally reached your room. "Wanna come hang out?" Opening the rooms door slowly.

"Nah, I'll go try and talk to Lawrence about you joining us in scavenging." You smiled at the response, heading inside the class and peeking your head out.

"Thanks, Eugene." He finally pulled down his black mask, showing his tinted pink lips, curving into a small smile. "Whatever, wierdo."

You had slowly crept out of your blankets, just enough to poke an eye out and take a peek- sunset! Finally! You slowly got out of your makeshift bed, feeling the cold creep in throughout you. "Shouldn't have taken my shoes off..." you said outloud, placing them back on your feet and tying them up tight for extra support.

You quickly grabbed your bat, heading out the door in excitement- maybe too much excitement. Quietly, you made tour way to Eugenes classroom door, knocking on it lightly. No answer.

"Eugene?" You asked, knocking on it again, a little louder. No answer again. "Im coming in," you announced with a sigh, opening the door and looking into the room. It was a sleeping Eugene, cuddled up to a sleeping bag. He looked cold- and tired.

"Eugene? It's time for night watch, get up." You said, walking up to the boy, kneeling down to get closer. His eyes squinted shut, pulling the sleeping bag around him tighter. "Tired..." He grumbled out.

"I know, but it's time to go do our jobs. You can sleep right after, alright?" No response again. You really didn't want to use this one but... "I have a package of Ramen in my room, come and do nightwatch with me and you'll get some~" You teased, whispering in his ear.

"What? Really?" No. Not at all. "Yea! I've been saving them... are you awake now?" The blonde had quickly jumped up with wide eyes, now on his feet and ready for the night. He nodded boldly, walking out the door. "Then hurry up, will ya?"
