Revelation 2:17 (NIV)
"Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it."I look at this verse and wonder if that means that we will have another name, in addition to our current names. God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and His imagination and creative ability is endless. My name in this life is quite common, as are many others (I imagine). I remember a time in elementary when a teacher would call out my name, and 5-7 other girls would turn around in response as well. So, seeing a verse like this makes me wonder if each of us has a name that God had already given us (prior to our earthly birth), and when we give our lives back to Him (through the salvation of Christ Jesus) we are given back our 'Heavenly' name.
It also makes me wonder if we will be called by our earthly name at all in Heaven. Will we automatically know everyone's name (earthly or Heavenly), or will we not have to use names at all (akin to calling everyone 'my friend' or 'brother/sister' etc)?
