MOONTALE - BOOK 1 "UNDERGROUND"

[Chapter 1]

Once upon a time in a strange universe, there was only a sun and moon. And the moon has a different way of orbiting around the sun.

The moon faces the sun only one way throughout all the years which caused all habitats to form depending on the sides.

There are two sides on the moon: Light and Dark.

The Light part of the moon has big, wide, dark-colored folding trees. The trees fold exactly with a close and opening time for 12 hours each. Underneath the leaves are black, whereas the front are white to reflect the sun's heat.

And on the Dark side has colorful long and short, big and small, wide and thin, bright bushes everywhere. The bright emitting from the plants are the only light source for all creatures that needed it. It is also just the same on the Light side– the plants only glows for 12 hours, and with another 12 hours will be the stars that shines.

After years, life on the moon became lively. More creatures forming. Those creatures are called
"Humans- made out of flesh, bones and organs",
"Monsters- way different than humans but can speak and made out of magic",
"Animals- creatures that have no ability to talk like Humans but serves a purposeful life", and so much more

But without rules and too much free will, the people don't know how to manage things for their families and themselves. So, one human came up with an idea about someone, or anyone at all, must try and rule the two lands.

Word got out and everyone agreed about it. Thousands of volunteers from the two lands decided to stand up and debate.

Until two victors proved their selves  worthy of such leadership over others, and their names are:

"Sinha, the male human leader of Light"
And
"Nycta, the female human leader of Dark"

Everyone rejoiced at the fact that they won't have any trouble to worry about who will take care of complicated things.

Sinha and Nycta accomplished everything that will be best for everyone and everything. They helped the sick, restored peace, stopped crime, treated every single creature equally, and so much other good deeds.

And because of that, they were both treated like a god, a blessing, hope for all the people.

Eventually, as the population grew, the space got smaller. The Dark region is too small because of the sun's hugeness and brightness.

So, Nycta decided to ask Sinha to borrow more men to build a wall around the whole side just to cover the sun rays. Without hesitation, he agreed and begin to action.

They worked together and finally created the Great Wall.

Nycta needed to build this wall because it will affect everyone's health, specially if they live right in the middle.

For example: If a human from the Light region enters through the wall and into the Dark region, they will suffer horrible changes if they stay in a week or so. They'll suffer slight memory loss, change of external and internal texture, probably some dislocated bones to adapt to their surroundings. And if one of the dislocated bones hits a vital part of the person's body, it may lead to death.

The two leaders regarded this fact and instated to never stay too long on their opposite region.

Everyone had a peaceful living, until humans became boastful around monsters. All because their kind couldn't contribute anything important, and because the leaders are humans too.

Sinha and Nycta tried to stop this from happening but the humans wouldn't bother to stop.

Everyone gossiping and whispering around, many angry and confused complaints about monsters.

Then one fateful day, a monster from the Dark region got tired and frustrated of the racism. So, he killed the human he was so mad about.

But what he didn't know is that a human's soul couldn't perish or dust away just like his kind.

He reached out for the human soul and accidentally absorbed it and became much more powerful. 

He abused that power, hurt and slaughtered every other human that he hated.

Nycta immediately got the news and with her much more powerful magic and capabilities, she tried to stop the monster.

But just before their eyes met,  the monster trembled uncontrollably and fell to the ground. He dusted away thus revealing the human souls he had gathered.

She carefully examined the scenario and continued onwards to the dusty human souls. She placed them in in safe containers of glass and returned them to the families that sadly lost a member.

But a band of monster rebels 'avenged' the first ever monster to absorb a soul. About 8 monsters of different types killed humans too. Although 5 monsters were killed back, but the 3 remaining ones were successful of gathering 17 souls altogether.

Both Nycta and Sinha with their men fought back and successfully held them captive in an anti-magic prison.

Just as before, when the two human leaders approached, the captured monsters withered away into dust too.

Suddenly, other monsters began to shout, that they want justice for their kind.

Humans too, argued against them and started a fight... but that was just the beginning.

The strongest boss monster and his wife both led the monsters to their will, that they must be treated equally with humans.

But the two leaders got frightened of the idea that monsters could wipe out the entire human civilization with just a few human souls, and the fact that monsters are the only species that can absorb a soul.

There was no other choice. Either humans or monsters could claim the surface, and not with each other. They started a war.

But in the end, the humans were victorious.

The humans got their best humans magicians and locked them underground, under a massive mountain called: "Mt. Ebott".
