The door to the silent classroom creaks open then softly closes. A student walks slowly to the desk in front and stops in front of the Professor.

"Yes? Can I help you?" The Professor asks in a sickly sweet voice.

"I am sorry I am late Professor. My head of house wished to speak with me. I have a note." He presents the note and she nods with a wide forced smile and holds out her hand for the note.

"We are all reading from the Introduction to chapter 3 this class. If you do not finish you are to continue till chapter 3 as homework." She smiles and holds out her arm which points to the last open seat in the class. Last seat on the front row. He nods at her and swiftly moves to sit down. He grabs his book as quietly as possible and dutifully starts to read.

"Harry. Harry? Harry? Why did Mcgonagall keep you for so long? Harry? Answer me."

"Mister Weasley. Is there something you wish to share with the class?" The Professor asks sharply.

"N-no Professor Umbridge." She nods and continues to look around the room. A few minutes later Harry feels a poke in his side. It happens three more times in quick succession.

"Ron. I am trying to read. Quit poking me. And do your work." He turns his head back down.

"What was that Mister Potter?" He looks up and takes a breath.

"Yes?"

"What was that little exchange of yours with Mister Weasley while we are in class?" Umbridge asks. Her words hardening close to the end.

"I apologize, Professor. I was simply telling him to stop poking me and do his own work as I was and am busy reading the pages you assigned us." They gazed steadily back at one another for a few seconds before she broke eye contact to look at Ron Weasley whose jaw had dropped.

"I see. 20 points from Gryffindor Mister Weasley, for bothering another student. And if the rest of you do not close your mouths I will deduct another 10 points from each student." At that you could hear snaps of jaws closing. "Proceed." The rest of class consisted of the turning of pages and a lot of sighing.

When class ended all of the students practically ran from the room save for one student, with 2 more hanging around in the hall waiting for him. "Time to kiss up to the worst Professor here." He takes a deep inhale and walks up to the desk.

"Professor? I just wished to express how sorry I am for being late to your lesson. It must have been hard to come up with a lesson for the first day and I am sure that not being here at the start was an inconvenience for you." She came around her desk to look at him as the two people in the hallways went slack jawed at what they heard.

"Of course Mister Potter. It is no problem. How about we just don't make it a regular occurence." She pats his arm with a beaming smile and he nods with a slight smile.

"I have to get to the next class. Thank you for being understanding." He walks out of class and turns left and stops almost running into Hermione and Ron with their jaws on the floor. "Pick your jaws up off the floor. Why do you look like that?"

"You threw me under the bus to Umbridge."

"You read without complaint."

"You were nice to her."

"What did Professor Mcgonagall want?" They went back and forth until Hermione asked this question. Ron nodded eagerly.

"I could tell you. Or, I could keep it private. As I should, it is a private discussion between me and Professor Mcgonagall."
