I never normally watched the news. Whenever my dad had it on in the living, I would grab the remote and switch it over, just to annoy him as missed out on the latest information sent from Afghanistan. A row would start due to my actions and my mum would be sighing in the background, I would usually be banned from the living room TV for a week. It's not exactly a punishment since there was a mini TV in almost every room in the house, including my bedroom.

But today I was in one of those moods. The mood where you'd rather be bored shitless than do homework, and where you'd rather watch pointless war news than have a shouting contest with your farther. I slumped over to the bay window which lit the living room dimly, and sat on the reclining chair placed in front of it.

'Horrific plane crash kills hundreds in Teesside airport' was today's main headline. A women with bleach blonde hair and laugh lines lining her bright blue eyes, was sat in a red suit behind the news desk.

I wasn't really listening to her reading out the information on the terrible incident just observing her annoying posture which told me she was very arrogant; I sighed then yawned and turned my head to look out the window. I could see our family cat, Rory, prowling down the dark, cold street giving the evils to next door neighbours cat which I could just see was sat in their bay window. I closed my eyes and let my mind drift, thinking about school, life, this year's winter fashion, and that fit guy in the year above me.

"Teesside airport assistance said they were closed for the day due to refurbishing the airport and were unaware of any flight destined to land earlier this day. And with the plane being badly burnt after igniting in flames after it landed, the aircraft is next to undeniable. We go to our reporter Trisha who's on sight."

"Thank you Caroline. This is one horrific scene laid out in front of my here. Many aircraft specialist are trying to identify how the craft crashed and how it came to be here. One of crew members here say they recognize the logo found on the rear plane that belongs major Chinese airline after visiting the country on holiday last year...."

My head snapped to look at the TV, my eyes flashing open to fix on the screen. China?

"Dad, did she just say China?" I turned to look at my dad frowning. His thick brows were winkled too too, but he held one fat finger to his lips, telling me to be quite. I turned my attention to my mum and observed the look on her face as she watched the TV. It looked as if we were all the same thing.

Why would a plain from China land in little Teesside airport?

It was a wonder to me if anyone out of the Uk and Ireland knew where Teesside airport was, or even knew it existed. Teesside airport only had about five of eight planes landing, setting off or stored there which were mainly used for flying to London, Belfast or Dublin. Mostly private mini planes were flown around there as you could buy driving lessons for someone's birthday or just for a personal experience. The only airport I know for a fact flies to China is London Heathrow airport.

I bit my bottom lip and stared at the screen. In the background of the crew member who claimed her knew where the plane was from being interviewed, there fire engines, paramedics and local police who must have been called by one of families who lived in a house near the airport and saw the plane firsthand.

Deciding that BBC news would find out the whole story to the plane crash by tomorrow, there was no point in sitting here and watching. I shrugged and stood up, stretching my long body, making my knuckles and back crack. My plain tank top rode up when I lifted my arm so I pulled it back down. It wasn't until my top had slid off me I realized how cold it was.

"I'm getting a bath, in a bit," I walked out the room and closed the living door room behind me, trying to stop the draft from the front door entering it as I opened the cat flap it to let Rory in. His paw slipped on the frame of the flap as a thick layer of ice had formed on it. I frowned, thinking of how I had to walk to school on Monday.

Winter's coming; and I have a feeling this year's winter will be more life-threatening than last.
