This book would not have been possible without my interactions with many actors, filmmakers, technicians, designers, assistants, musicians and publicists from the Indian film industry over the last twenty years. Some of the members of the film fraternity who have had lasting impressions on my career include Mahesh Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Subhash Ghai, Shakti Samanta, Ronnie Screwvala, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Renuka Shahane, Jackie Shroff, Rahul Bose, Swaroop Rawal, John Abraham, Suniel Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Aishwarya Rai, Raageshwari Loomba, Vaibhavi Merchant, Nitin Desai, John Abraham, Vivek Oberoi, Sushant Singh, Gazal Dhaliwal, Sudhir Nair, Anurag Basu and Manish Malhotra. While Shadow & Soul is a tale of fiction, I have drawn from the lives of many of these people for the characters and situations in the book.

I thank my journalist friends and former colleagues Ashishwang Godha, Sanaya Pavri, Sridhar Ramakrishnan, Srabana Lahiri, Sudipta Basu, Meenal Baghel, the late Trevor Manuel, Faheem Ruhani, Pradeep Chandra, Pal Pillai, Jamal Shaikh, Anil Sadarangani, Himanshu Patil, Waleed Hussain, Shraddha Kamdar, Carol Andrade and Sandra Almeida Thevar for teaching me the crafts of journalism. Darshana Dave, Hiral Buch, Karan Bhatt and Jui Andhare are friends who have helped me with resources and contacts related to films and Joy Vijay Fernandes, Elton Pinto, Giovanni D'Cunha, Andrea Maganlal, Krupa and Tanmay Kholkar have given me insight into the cultures of Goa on various occasions.

Lastly, I thank my mother, Sujata Sarkar, who has always encouraged me to write and who painstakingly went through the book and gave her valuable comments and my husband Rachit Mankad, who minded my two-year-old hyperactive toddler while I typed this book on Google docs on my phone.
