BLUE JACKSON-FARLEY IS FASCINATED BY THE SCENT OF BLOOD.

She doesn't know when it started, maybe it was when she was a six year old in her kitchen watching her father bleed out in front of her, and the mysterious woman who killed him pick her up and leave her outside of Sally Jackson's house with a kiss on the head. Maybe it was when she was ten and she screamed at Smelly Gabe, his nose started gushing blood and didn't stop until an hour later. Maybe that was why she started fights all the time, because she liked the blood she could spill, and not because being in a fight seemed to energise her to an extent not even hours of sleep could.

There were many instances in Blue Farley's life where she looked back into her memories and saw the stain of blood, but there were few memories she held dearly that did not.

Ones of her and Percy sat next to each other on the beach, heads bowed together as they talked about their recent interests, and Sally sat next to them, listening intently, even if she looked a little sad sometimes.

Memories of her, Sally and Percy eating blue food ( Percy had made a joke when they were seven that it was cannibalism and Blue had cried for half an hour ) and watching cartoons on the tv. Memories of her and Percy sitting in Mr Brunner's latin class, listening to his stories and talking about their favourite heroes, especially when mythology became one of Blue's hyperfixations.

Blue had no idea a trip to a museum with her brother and her favourite history teacher would lead her into a world of monsters and mythology— as well as making her meet the annoying prankster boy from the cabin she had to stay in.
