my friend literally traced my art today 😀
and then lied to my face ab it 😃⁉️

okay so basically-
she follows my tiktok, yea? she jokes that she basically stalks it, and i akways get spam liked by her acc alot-
about last week or so, i posted a short video showing my doodles from school, one of them being this doodle of selozar

i was rlly proud of it and thought it was really cute, so ofc i wanted to post it-
anyways, today she went up to me and was like "hey, i hear you talk about selozar alot, so i decided to draw my own version of him!"
i was pretty excited, bc i like seeing other people's versions of him, and also i was excited that i got her into the hyperfixation that i was into, so i was like "oh cool! can i see?"
i kid you not, this is what she sends me.
i couldn't make this up if i tried.

so,,,,,,,, yeah, its painfully obvious she traced.
after seeing it i was like "oh, did you use that drawing i did the other day for like-- the base or something? like did you trace it-??" and then sHE goes-
"well i used it as a reference, i didn't trace it though."

uh, girl-
okay so-
i didn't instantly get mad or anything, cause i thought maybe since she's kinda new to art and drawing, she got tracing and referencing mixed up or something, i didn't wanna be rude or anything so i just politely stated that i want confortable with people tracing or "referencing" my art at all, then we ended the conversation there

(im gonna gloss over the end of the day where she showed one of my friends and didnt credit me, so i had to butt in and say that she traced it from me, but yknow-)

so after school ended , i realized that if she stalked my tiktok, she wouldve seen the video where i specifically stated that i wasnt at all okay with reposts or using my art for things with or without credit (i didnt include tracing since i mean, i thought that would just be common sense, but i guess not?) and yet she still did that and then showed it to me trying to pass it off as her own-

anyways i started this out basically fuming angy, but now im just tired so i just wanna quickly say,
dont- trace art? and/or pass it off as your own?? thats art theft, and it basically doesnt really help you improve in any way. and if you drew something you were really proud of, only for someone to trace over it line for line and claim it as theirs, it very obviously wouldn't make you happy.
references are different, though. those can help you get better if theyre used right.
don't draw over references line for line, instead have it be off to the side and take mental notes about the perspective and anatomy of it, referencing can actually help you improve, if you use them correctly.

anyways yeah thats basically the whole story. i dont think i'll talk to her as often as usual, its the least i can do out of spite without seeming too mean ab it lmao.

p.s. speaking of spite, i traced over my own drawing digitally as well, with my actual version of selozar.

notice how i made the hair slightly blonder than usual, that was to make fun of the fact she made his hair highlighter pumpkin orange bc whether she "referenced" it or purposefully traced over it , im still angry at her because shes also starting to be transphobic towards me 😍🖕
