If I was a better runner
With longer legs and shorter breaths
I’d tie my hair back and lace my shoes
Just to run all the way to you
Counting cars and not the miles
I think I could ignore the pain in my legs for awhile
People would stop and stare
Almost like I was a Forrest Gump look-a-like
But I have a destination
I have my person
And the distance can not stop me
If only for a moment
Or a day
I’d lay in the hot Florida sun and share my laughter with you
The stories we would tell
Getting closer with each treasure and tale
Watching each other grow up and learn each day
And maybe someday
We could run together
Both of us trying to reach first place in our own little race
But for now
I will slowly make my way to you
Step by step
Stretching my tiny little legs as I can
You know I’m persistent
And I will be there as soon as I can
If only I was a better runner

It's been some time since I've made an appearance here....
