My ring glittered in the light coming in through the window. It was golden vibranium, with a thin band of blue quartz through the middle. Steve's had green through the middle, matching my eyes, and mine matched his.
The trip in the jet was spent with hands on waists, chests, necks, not nothing more. There was an unspoken desire, a hunger for each other that we had kept at bay all this time. The rings on our fingers were the final piece, the key, that we might finally be together, fully, together.
When the jet landed, Steve carried me out, bridal style, my arms around his neck. It reminded me of a time long ago, when he had carried me like this, injured, through a smoking city.
We had been barely friends, back then. If that version of me could see us now, she would not believe it.
I pulled out a knife, small and silver. Steve stood behind me, his body warm, his hands clasped over mine, and together we carved our names into the old wood, kisses stolen in between letters. The fire crackled, already lit before we arrived.
Steve looked to the open door, and I smiled.
The room was warm from the raging fire, but the heat between us was even greater. His hands hadn't left me since we arrived, and now he cupped my face, blue eyes shining in the semi-darkness.
My whole body was electrified, tingling with love and wanting. Steve leaned down, his lips grazing mine. I gripped his arms and swayed. He hesitated, brow furrowing.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" he whispered, searching my eyes. I laughed, a bright thing, running my hands along his forearms and onto his chest.
"Of course I want to do this. Why do you think I married you?"
He smiled at that, and then, without warning, his lips crashed into mine, fierce, hot and sweet. This was a side of him, a hungry, passionate side I had never seen.
His hands fumbled across my back, looking for the zip on my dress.
There was no talking after that, until a few moments later, when my fingers tugged on the waistband of his boxers, and I leaned up and whispered in his ear.
"Kiss me, Captain Underpants."
Authors Note
Some of these chapters are short but as they're fillers they don't need to be long! I am trying to publish all of The Inbetween throughout this week so I can properly get started on the last book of the series; Annihilation. Super excited for that, let me know your thoughts on what might happen next!
I'll also be changing the cover art for the whole series so don't be alarmed if its different!
stay safe, stay groovy,
~JJ
