a/n: the first few chapters will b long bc they r mostly derived from the books

almost ten years had passed since the Dursleys woke up to find their niece and nephew on the front doorstep, but Privet Drive had hardly changed at all. just as plain and ordinary as it was the night the twins had arrived. apart from the Dursleys pride and joy, Dudley Dursley, there was no sign of any other children residing in the home.

yet there they were; Harry and Jasmine Potter asleep in a cramped space under the staircase — though not for long. Aunt Petunia was awake and it was her shrill voice that functioned as their alarm each day.

"up! get up! now!"

Jasmine groaned as she slid off her mattress, she blinked furiously to remember last night's dream, and stepped towards Harry's mattress. her aunt rapped on the door again.

"up!" she screeched, and Harry awoke at this.

he rolled over to grab his glasses and meet his sister's gaze, also trying to remember his dream from last night. it had been a good one, he was sure, almost real. he had a feeling that he had the same dream of the flying motorcycle before.

their aunt was back outside the door.
"are you up yet?" she demanded.

"mhm," Jasmine spoke as Harry said "nearly," at the same time.

"well, get a move on, i want you to look after the bacon. and don't you dare let it burn, i want everything perfect on Duddy's birthday."

Jasmine rolled her eyes and Harry groaned at this. she elbowed him lightly in the ribs at his response, as their aunt snapped through the door, "what did you say?"

"nothing, nothing..." he murmured.

the two got dressed - both in washed out shirts much too large for them, Harry paired with a pair of large, plaid pajama pants and Jasmine with a pair of shorts.

"Harry, come on," she whispered, nodding her head towards the door as her brother began looking under his bed for socks. he found a pair, pulled a spider off of it, and proceeded to put them on.

the pair was used to spiders, their cupboard under the stairs was full of them. they didn't mind them — Jasmine even felt sorry for them, bending down to cup the harmless spider in her hands as Harry opened their cupboard door and they stepped into the hall down from the kitchen. Harry assumed position in front of the stove tending to the bacon as she rushed to open the front door to let the spider out of her hands, before anyone could see.

she was unsuccessful though, and Dudley made sure to make her feel horrible about it. he stepped in front of Jasmine and raised his big, ugly boot to stomp on the spider. she flinched at this, and he let out a hearty laugh. she glared up at him — just as his boot snapped open, tearing through the leather, and his laugh turned into a frown. Jasmine let out a laugh as the boot collapsed in front of the two and his large toes became visible.

"mum! she ruined my boot," Dudley called out, before turning back around to the front door, but Jasmine wasn't there anymore. both Harry and Jasmine had always been fast, though neither looked it — having always been very thin — they were quick on their feet. especially when it came to their cousin. Dudley stumbled into the kitchen where the twins stood in the kitchen with a scowl on his face, and boots now in his hand.
