I snuck out of my room and silently crept to the room next to mine. I opened the door slowly making sure to make minimal noise as I tiptoed towards the two twin beds.“Booo!” I yelled, jolting my younger siblings awake.”Hey, why would you do that!” Ellie, my younger sister said while blocking Alex, her twin brother. Between the twins, Ellie was more outgoing while Alex was more on the quiet side.”That scared me.” Ellie said lowering her arm so she wasn’t blocking Alex. ”I made breakfast so come downstairs and eat.” “Fine.” The twins grumbled as they got out of bed. I left the twin’s room and walked outside to see my mother washing the clothes I had gotten dirty when I went hunting a few days ago. ”Louie.” My mother called. “Can you help me hang the clothes?” “Yes, mother” I replied walking over to the basket of wet clothes. When I was done hanging the clothes I went back inside and put my hunting gear on which consisted of a small sword my dad made me when I was little and a bow my mother gave me for my 7th birthday. “Mother, I'm going hunting, I'll be back in a bit.” I called to my mother “Ok, bring the twins with you, they’ve been asking to go for a while now.” “Okay.” I replied. I walked back inside to see the twins cleaning the dishes they had just dirtied. “Ellie, Alex, I’m going hunting. Do you want to go with me?” “Yes!” They replied running upstairs to grab the small daggers I had made for both of them a year ago. Once they came back downstairs we walked outside. “Luna.” I called. Luna was the magic beast I had found under the willow tree I climbed on often as a kid. She was a white-tailed fox magic beast which is pretty rare to find or so my mother said. “Luna, I’m going hunting.” “Kay!” She replied running to my side. After a while of walking, I noticed something was off, there were no signs of magic beasts or any other life forms. Deciding to ignore it we continued walking for another hour but there were still no signs of life other than us. “Ellie, Alex, we’re going to head back now.” “Ok.” The twins said. “But why?” Ellie asked. “Because I can’t sense any magic bea-BOOM!” The ground shook. “What was that?!” Ellie asked. “I don’t know but go hide in the secret fort with Luna.” I said trying to keep my voice steady knowing that the noise came from the direction our house was in. “Ok.” They replied running to the fort.” Luna, keep them safe.” I said before running towards the direction the sound came from. The closer I got the stronger the smell of smoke was. Once I finally got there I understood where the smell of smoke came from, It was coming from my house. My house was in flames, the once colorful garden was now charred and non-existent. Everything was already ash, the only thing left was the wooden frames that once held my home. “MOM!” “MOM, WHERE ARE YOU!” I called but no one answered. I ran through the house looking for her but no one was there. It started to get harder to breathe as I continued to look for her not just because of the smoke that was burning my lungs, but because of the fear inside me that was slowly devouring me as I wondered if I would ever find her. After looking for an hour I still couldn’t find her. “Mom…where are you?” I whimpered softly, my ears starting to ring as I fell to the ground crying.
Would I ever find her? Was she even still alive? Questions started to flood my mind, drowning out all other sounds, and then everything went black. “Beep Beep!” “Get him to the...” “He was hit by a truck.” “He’s lost to much blood.” “He’s got eight broken ribs and…” Strange sounds started flooding my ears. Where am I? What happened? “Will….he be alright?” The sound of a crying girl asked. Who was this person? They didn’t sound like mom or Ellie. Wait I need to get up, I still need to get to the twins. What happened to my mom? I asked but nothing came out. Somethings wrong, this isnt my body. I tried to get up but I couldn’t, it felt like something was tying me down. After awhile of struggling I gave up and decided to listen to the strange sounds because it was the only thing that was convincing me that I was still alive. I listened to these sounds for what felt like an eternity and then they stopped. The only thing that was convincing me that I was still alive stopped. Did I finally die? I thought to myself and then I saw something it was light. Was this what people called the light at the end of the tunnel. Wait, no now that I think about it I'm pretty sure it was meant for people going through a rough time not people who had died. Well, whatever I'm pretty sure it would apply to this situation as well. After my eyes adjusted I realized I hadn't died and the light was the lights from the hospital room. Hospital room? Wait what's a hospital and how did I know that I was in one? "Where's Sarah?" I said in a raspy voice, but it wasn't my voice. Sarah? Who's that? Whats going on with me. why does it feel like I'm in somebody else's body? "Ughh!" I grunted clutching my chest as my head flooded with the memories and emotions of a boy named Liam Wood.
