'welcome home' you thought to yourself as you unlocked your front door. Imagine coming home from boarding school & no one being home to greet you.
Your own twin brother couldn't even be bothered by your return.
"tragic" you whispered to yourself as you set your suitcase on your bed. On the bright side, no one being home meant you could go surfing.
You slipped on your swim suit & went out to the dock to grab your surf board, which was untouched since you had left.
As you surfed you wondered why your mom hadn't been home. Maybe she was dealing with a work emergency, or maybe she'd just forgotten about you.
The family forgetting about you wouldn't be shocking. You weren't the golden child & you were constantly compared to your brother, which made you feel inadequate.
Your freshman year you'd gotten into a bunch of trouble with the school after being caught smoking weed at one of the football games.
Luckily your grandpa was the only judge on Kildare Island & due to some small town nepotism, you got away with it. At least in the eyes of the law. Your mother however, was deeply ashamed of you.
She found an expensive boarding school in Minnesota & sent you away. After 3 years you wondered if people even remembered you, it sure seems like your family didn't.
You gathered your board & headed back to shore. You saw your phone lighting up & clicked on the notification
Incoming Call
Grandpa Thornton
accept decline"Hello" you said after quickly clicking accept.
"Hey darlin.. when are you getting off the ferry?" your grandpa asked through the phone
"I actually got home about an hour ago" you said shyly
There was silence on the other end of the call.. "sorry we missed you sweetie" your grandma said slowly.
"No worries" you whispered into the phone
"Alright, we'll see you later then sweet-heart" your grandma said before whispering
"hang up the phone.""bye guys, love you." you said quickly
call ended
You grabbed your surf board & gathered your bag. 'what a depressing phone call' you thought to yourself as you walked towards the pier.
