THE couple returned to the table after a few minutes of talking. They both glanced in Griffin's direction, which made him stare up at them in slight confusion.
"Hey, guys, what took you so long?"
"N-Nothing." Thomas replied awkwardly.
Mal rolled her eyes. "So... Griffin. Is there anything you want to tell us?"
He shook his head.
"No, not really, no. Why?"
"Oh, nothing. We just feel like you have something to tell us."
"No. Not at all."
Mal sighed and sat up straight, then reached for Thomas's hand from under the table and squeezed it gently.
"So, tell us about your life. How was everything?"
"It was great. Kind of boring, but great."
Griffin then let out his phone and began to scroll through something, trying to avoid their gaze. Thomas gave Mal a disappointed look while tilting his head a little, rubbing his eyes a little in frustration.
"Oh, look. Food's here!"
The three then began to eat in silence.
-
"I just... I don't know what to do."
Thomas whispered, rubbing his temple. Mal nodded sympathetically, then wrapped her arms around him in a warm hug. He hugged her back immediately, sinking his face into her neck.
"It's going to be fine, babe."
They let go after a few minutes, then they both leaned in. And planted a soft kiss on each other's lips.
"Yeah. You're right, babe."
They continued to kiss each other for a few more seconds, only to be interrupted by the sound of the door closing, causing a loud thud.
Mal turned her head to the doorframe, towards the empty hall.
"Griffin?" they both called out, scurrying across the hall quickly. "Where did he go?"
They hurried down the stairs, which led to the living room.
And were met by the empty couch where Griffin was sitting before.
"Griffin?!"
Thomas ran to the door and opened it quickly.
Still the sight of no one.
It was almost eight o'clock in the evening, and they were gathered in Thomas's house. His parents were on a business trip, so the three were all alone. However, they both got out of the house and continued to keep an eye across the lawn.
"Where the hell did that asshole go now?!" Mal exclaimed angrily.
"Maybe he went home?"
"No, he didn't, Thomas! He actually went somewhere. He's not telling us anything about what's really going on with him!"
Thomas groaned. "You know what? Let's go visit him tomorrow. It's too late right now."
"Fine. I'm going home." she then began to walk away.
"Wait, let me walk you!"
He reached for her hand and they both talked about random things, until they reached Mal's house.
"I'll see you tomorrow, babe."
"See you tomorrow."
They both gave each other a quick peck on the lips, and eventually parted their ways.
