Chapter Sixteen

Lucien Devereaux's POV:

It has been two weeks now since the incident with André occurred. Two weeks since I slit his arms in the middle of a quaint bakery. Two weeks since he attempted sexual assault against me. Two weeks since I almost relapsed, mentally and physically. Two weeks since everything.

Even though I did not murder André, I still had to cover up my tracks before I got investigated by the authorities. To do so, I placed my bloodied clothes in a black garbage bag, and I tossed them in a dumpster behind a shady alleyway many miles away from the bakery. Next, I smashed the CCTV cameras inside the bakery to pieces, and I discarded them in another dumpster miles away. I also locked that Esmerelda woman inside the pantry so she could not interrupt my shenanigans. I hope she got out. But if she did not, then oh well, that is her problem.

I was even on the brink of relapsing and scavenging for heroin and meth to subside my pain. The overwhelming guilt that I felt burdening upon my chest like a boulder felt unbearable to the point where I wanted to collapse. But I am so fortunate that my better senses prevailed, and I fought through it. I am still clean, and that is all that matters right now.

Sebastian did not know anything, though. Frankly, it was alarming how I could hide that significant event with so much ease. But yet, I could not conceal the simplest of things without getting caught red-handed in a second.

"Shite, keep going! You can do it!" I yelled aloud to myself as I dialed up the maximum speed on the treadmill that I was currently exercising on.

Alas, I hesitantly paused the song playing on my phone called, Whatshername by Green Day because many text messages from London were coming in.

London: Hey, Lucien! What is up? 9:20 A.M.

London: Are you up for brunch today? 9:21 A.M.

Damn it. I just started working out. Ah well, I reckon that a few extra carbs never hurt anyone, right?

Me: Sure, I am! What time and where should I meet you? 9:22 A.M.

London: How about 11:00 A.M. at Picturesque Bistro on the corner of Lavande Avenue. 9:23 A.M.

Okay, rich kid alert. That restaurant is notorious for having upper-class wealthy men loiter around and pick up young attractive-looking individuals.

Me: Okay, that is perfect! I will just be finishing my morning workout by then. 9:23 A.M.

London: Cool, because I want you to meet my new boyfriend! Bring Sebastian along if he is available, so we can have that double date that I promised you a while ago. 9:25 A.M.

Ah, London is finally letting me meet his boyfriend! I really hope that this guy treats London right because he deserves the entire world. But I feel that he is still hung up on me a little, but he attempts to conceal it with a façade. It breaks my heart because I just do not see him like that, but if I did, then we would have been endgame.

Me: OMG, finally, babe! I can not wait! He better make damn sure to treat my best friend right! 9:25 A.M.

London: Haha, do not worry because he treats me so well. :) I will see you there, babes! 9:27 A.M.

I smiled, clicking off my phone as I let the ironically calming sound of heavy electric guitars and drums soothe me.
