Where was Chongyun? Xingqiu wandered aimlessly among the crowd, a letter clutched in his hand. His father, the leader of the Feiyun Commerce Guild, had let him off from his studies early that day, so Xingqiu thought he might go and find his best friend.

Just the thought of Chongyun, the pink cheeks and pale blue hair, those eyes that sparkled like stars, sent Xingqiu into a fit of blushing. Nervously, he pushed back some of his hair out of his eyes, fingers running through the choppy bangs as he did so very often.

"Xingqiu!" Chongyun called from somewhere behind Xingqiu, making him whip around, sleeves flying.

"Chongyun!" Xingqiu cried in delight, heart leaping in his chest. A stray piece of blue hair fell into Chongyun's eyes, the wind ruffling his hair. Xingqiu's hand clenched in the fabric of his shirt, wanting desperately to reach up and brush away that strand, wanting to brush his fingers along the side of Chongyun's face.

"I was waiting for you," Xingqiu said instead, bringing his hand down to his side.

So maybe Xingqiu had a little bit of a crush on his best friend and maybe he wanted to ask Chongyun out on a date, but that was fine. If Chongyun rejected him, that was alright, and they could just go on being friends. It was fine.

"Oh, really?" Chongyun asked. Xingqiu sighed. There he went, being all aloof and cool, but somehow sweet and adorable at the same time. Honestly, the combination made his heart explode in his chest. "I was looking for you as well."

"R-Really?" Xingqiu stuttered, stepping back slightly. "Right, of course." Xingqiu shot Chongyun a smile, waving his paper. "Look, I have something to show you. Let's go to Xiangling's."

"Ah- alright." Chongyun agreed hastily, grabbing Xingqiu's hand and darting through the crowd. His mind went blank for half a second, pausing at the feeling of Chongyun's hand in his.

The two darted through the crowds together, hand in hand, Xingqiu stopping briefly to throw a smile in Chongyun's direction. He blinked at the sight of a pink flush overtaking Chongyun's face before he turned his head in the other direction.

A few people in the crowd stopped to stare at the pair. Word had already spread of the friends, gossip, whispers that they might be something more. Chongyun and Xingqiu had always ignored the rumors, but sometimes Xingqiu laid in bed at night, one hand over his stomach, the other tucked behind his hair, thinking about those rumors and wondering what would happen if they became true. Most of the time, however, Xingqiu rolled onto his side and closed his eyes, falling into dreamless sleep.

"We're here, dear Chongyun," Xingqiu declared, raising his hand dramatically. Their hands were still clasped together, and Xingqiu realized he didn't want to let go. Chongyun squeezed his hand slightly, sending tingles up Xingqiu's arm.

"Ah!" A cry came from the kitchen, and the quick pattering of feet followed. "Guoba, get back here!"

A dark-haired girl dressed in an apron burst out of the door, a small, toddling bear in front of her. Quickly, she scooped up the bear and nuzzled its nose, whispering kind words into its ear.

"Xingqiu! Chongyun!" She exclaimed in delight, her eyes lighting up.

"Hello, Xiangling," Chongyun waved his other hand, drawing Xiangling's eyes to their clasped hands. Xingqiu blushed, noticing the way her eyes lit up at the sight of physical contact between them.

Xiangling, a mutual friend between Chongyun and Xingqiu, was a chef at Wanmin restaurant, somebody who eagerly made dishes and could cook anywhere she wanted, especially with the help of her Pyro Vision. And, as Xingqiu often noticed, she wanted Chongyun and Xingqiu to be together, desperately, no matter how much Xingqiu insisted they were only friends.
