Chapter 3

Gabriel's POV

I can tell from Ruby's quietness, she returned to her closed off self... again.

At the beginning of the class, she went to show her paper to Miss Roosevelt, and since then she hasn't moved.

Her small ivory hand is resting on her soft cheek, on her desk, giving the pretension of being captured in our teacher's words.

For me, it's obvious from the empty look she has, the reality is far from it.

Sometimes I get the feeling she has seen a little too much of everything, that she went through a lot, maybe even through situations most people can't deal with, much less live with... but I believe she did, that she can.

Ruby's strong minded, independent.
Perhaps it is my traitorous heart, but I really thing Ruby was starting to lower her walls around us and around me.

Aaron is the one to blame.

He knew better than to push her like how he did this brake, knowing she has personal issues.

He went completely bat shit crazy... hugging Ruby and whispering in her hear like he himself was her boyfriend.

Jealousy spreads through me as fast and consuming as fire in gasoline.

This girl will be the end of me. I never felt like this before. My heart beats ten times faster when I'm around her or think of her.

She's the kind of girl that is beautiful, looks like a fucking model and doesn't even know it.

I love the half smile she tries to hide whenever something amuses her, the way she is so honest and direct with words.

I'm falling for Scarlet James and only one day has passed since I met her.

...

Ruby's POV

At lunch, I seat in a table outside of the cafeteria, away from the majority of my fellow students and near the pines that grow beautifully everywhere around here.

The sun shines bright and hot, enveloping me in it's warm embrace, as well as the characteristic aromas of it.
I'm thinking about the quietness of it all when suddenly the phone goes off, showing an unknown number on my screen.

Ignoring the call, I patiently wait for it to stop ringing. After it ceases, the ping of an incoming message is heard.

"U fucking bitch, if u think u can run from us, u 're fucking mistaken. Come back or we'll come to get u."

I close my eyes in frustration, attempting to halt the fear and despair that threatens to rip me apart. I've come so far... so close to freedom.

"What yo thinking cute-pie?" Aaron asks.

Noting only now the arrival of Duke, Aaron, Gabriel and Luke, I quickly compose myself and repress my emotions, careful to not show anything.

It's unimaginable the reactions of them if they knew how my life really is. They mustn't discover even the smallest of thing about me.

Nobody should sustain what I had to tolerate this last years. I'll go down first if it means to leave out this 4 wonderful boys untouched in their ignorance, thence my reticence around them.

"If you don't want to share," he starts, sitting right next to me and grinning like the Cheshire cat, "you can always compensate me with a kiss."

"I don't kiss cousins on the cheek." I readily warn him, while rolling my eyes.
