Third Person POV ~ Same Day
Walking across the long wooden bridge that connects the Courtyard to the Sundial Garden, Harry, Kelsey, and Professor Lupin exchange pleasant conversation of simple small talk before Harry eventually speaks up, ready to ask his question.
"Professor, can I ask you something?"
Kelsey's arm is still looped around his own, resting her palm on the crease of his elbow as he gives the older gentlemen a sidelong glance before slipping his hands into his pockets.
"You want to know why I stopped you from facing the Boggart." Lupin says, before noticing the surprise in the younger boy's eyes. "I should think it'd be obvious. I assumed the Boggart would take the shape of Lord Voldemort."
Kelsey's eyes widen slightly at her Professor's casual willingness to utter the name that's to never be mentioned aloud. Even though Voldemort is said and believed to be dead, owing to the Golden Quartet's actions the previous year, hearing his name spoken aloud is always surprising. Harry comes to a halt in front of the bridge's banister, looking out over the water below.
He takes his hands out of his pockets before taking one of Kelsey's into his own. He grips the banister with his other hand before speaking.
"I did think of Voldemort...at first." He says as Lupin leans against the banister next to the young man. "But then, I remembered that night on the train...and the Dementors..."
"Well, well. I'm impressed. That suggests that what you fear the most is fear itself. This is very wise." Lupin comments, watching the teens before him.
"Before I fainted...I heard something." Harry takes a small breath. "A woman. Screaming."
"Dementors force us to relive our very worst memories." Lupin reveals. "Our pain becomes their power."
"At first, I thought it was Kelsey." He admits as he looks down at his best friend before returning his gaze to the water. "But now, I think it was my mother. The night she was murdered."
Lupin sucks in a deep breath before moving to stand side by side with Harry. He looks out into the distance, hands on the railing.
"You know, the very first time I saw you, Harry, I recognized you immediately." He concedes before realizing Harry's gaze has shifted away from him. "Not by your scar. By your eyes. They're your mother, Lily's."
The Potter boy switches his focus back to his D.A.D.A. Professor. Lupin gives a small nod, his face lit up with a smile. As he begins to talk, he turns away from his students and heads over to the banister behind them.
"Yes. Oh, yes, I knew her. Your mother was there for me at a time when no one else was. Not only was she a singularly gifted witch, she was also an uncommonly kind woman. She had a way of seeing the beauty in others. Even, and perhaps most especially, when that person couldn't see it themselves."
