Kim Y/N didn't really remember the first days of her Elementary or Middle School. They were just . . . fine, I guess. Mild.
But she was definitely going to remember the first day of her High School, because it was the first time ever that someone challenged Seo Soojin in front of Son Seungwan and the latter didn't defend her.
Though a certain asshole did.
"Most of our classes are together, Seungwan," Soojin smiled excitedly as they looked down at their time tables.
"I know right, it's perfect! Y/N's also got a fair number of classes with us!" Seungwan added.
"Yeah, you're right," the other girl said in an almost grumpy voice, which, of course, Seungwan failed to notice. Like always. Or maybe she did notice, but always decided to ignore such things.
"I know right!" Y/N exclaimed, trying her best to rub salt in Soojin's wound. "Besties forever, always together!"
"Speaking of," Soojin began, instigating a topic she'd wanted to talk about since a few days now, "wanna hang out after school today?"
"Not after school . . ." Y/N mumbled. "I've got practice. . . ."
"O-oh." Seungwan pursed her lips, glancing at Soojin. "About that . . ."
Soojin smirked internally. The conversation was going exactly like she'd wanted it to. "We wanted to talk to you about something, Y/N-ssi."
Y/N's smile faltered at her tone. "W-what?"
Seungwan was visibly frowning. "Let's get straight to the point, okay?" she spoke carefully. "Ever since you . . . joined the Basketball Club . . ." She couldn't bring herself to say it. She wasn't so sure herself, but Soojin had said so, and she had seemed so sure. Soojin was right, right?
Right . . . ?
"Well, she wants to say that ever since you joined the team," Soojin chipped in, supporting Seungwan, "you haven't been giving us enough attention. You're always with your teammates. We're feeling ignored, Y/N."
The said girl's smile completely disappeared at that. "What do you mean?"
"You heard it," Soojin said. "We mean that you're giving basketball too much time."
"So what do you want me to do, quit basketball?" Y/N produced a nervous laugh at her own joke.
But the silence that followed made it clear that it wasn't a joke to them.
"Wait- you're not serious?" Y/N's laughter died down.
"We are," Seungwan answered. "I'm sorry, Y/N."
"No, but-" The Kim girl couldn't believe it. "You're asking me to quit basketball?"
"Yes, exactly," Soojin replied.
Y/N threw her a glare before turning to her best friend. "But Seungwan, hon, I can't just quit basketball! It's something I really like, and you can't, you can't tell me to just leave it! I'd felt left out in the Middle School team, but here, here it's perfect! I'm playing nice, I fit in! Everyone likes me!"
Everyone except one.
"Well, what about us?" Seungwan said softly. "Don't we like you enough? Don't you fit in with us?"
Y/N opened her mouth to counter, but couldn't come up with something directly. "But . . . this is . . ."
"I'm your best friend, Y/N," Seungwan continued. "We're both your friends. We heard about the coach too. He's harsh. And we want the best for you. Just quit the team."
